Mainboard http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=2694#sp (GA-MA790FX-DS5 )
Memory http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145153 (CM2X1024-6400)

Got a pair of the above memory, 2GB. Machine does not boot up with both installed.

with other module installed system boots, since 1 gb is not enough to run windows 7, have to add a few modules, adding 2 other brand but same CL5 memory into the machine to get 3GB, the machine crashes within 1 hour / is unstable.

The other ram modules that I have here are g.skill 1.8-2.0 volt 5-5-5-15 the timings of the above modules are 5-5-5-18 and voltage 1.9. The 5-5-5-15 modules should work fine on 5-5-5-18?

Do you think the Crosshair modules are faulty or what the problem is?

I see no compatability issues.

Unfortunately mixing of RAM is always a crapshoot with no guarantees. I'd try running Memtest86+ on each DIMM individually to see if you have a bad one. If they test good they still might not function without errors because they are likely different ICs on the different brands/models of DIMMs. Different voltages and timings make it almost impossible to have them work without issues.

The fact remains that the modules don't work alone. only the other module agrees to boot up.

Edit: 1 module boots to windows, but its not enough to properly test if the system is working, since windows 7 sucks it all up.

2 modules system is unstable or doesn't boot.

1 module with other rams system is unstable

other rams alone, stable

other rams + 1 PQI 1GB ddr2 module, Stable.

Seems to me the two corsairs are faulty, I saw alot of complaints at newegg.

I did run memtest86+ originally one module at a time, and eventually got all 4 in and it passed. But the system still was unstable later in windows.

If you think you have bad DIMMs you should return them. A lot of people return perfectly good hardware as they try to guess what the real issue(s) are so take online reports with a large grain of salt. If the DIMMs do pass Memtest86+ when booting from a floppy, CD or flash drive they are usually good but there can always be an exception to the rule.

If you haven't already tried, you could boot with one DIMM, go in and set the RAM latencies slow and the RAM voltage to 1.9v or 2.0v if your BIOS will allow. Then power down and plug the other DIMMs in and see if it will boot.

One of the rams was faulty (no boot), rest are working fine. Cpu heatsink was covered in dust and it overheated to 75'c and automatically shutoff. It's not my pc, I didn't notice there was dust so much in the heatsink under the fan, untill I ran prime95 on Small FFTs and noticed the pc crashed no matter what ram was in it..

the mixed rams are working 5-5-5-15 and 5-5-5-18 1.9v. Bios set to 5-5-5-18 1.9v no problems now with overheating issue and faulty module removed.

Another success story and a good reason to clean HSFs periodically. thumb.gif
