[EVGA] Introducing the EVGA Classified SR-X - Page 15

unfortunately this board got screwed over by intel bad when they decided to lock both multiplier and strap on the xeon e5-26xx models. basically right now this doesn't overclock at all (from what i hear the bclck is even touchier then usual on the server chipset). Also the rumored SAS specification was bogus since it splits into 8xSATA2 which i have no use for. For the time being the SR2 is still the superior platform.

This is an even worse buy than a 3960x lmao. (and before all the trolls jump all over me... i did say 3960x not 3930k)

For once AMD has something that beats Intel.

Sr-2 without a doubt is still the superior mobo for ocing and various other options that intel screwed over people with atm so anyone that has a sr-2 like me believe me keep it for a while not worth upgrading right now unless intel releases a unblocked or unlocked multiplier or block.

For once AMD has something that beats Intel.

It's really important to remember that these are server/workstation chips...not enthusiast desktop chips. *points to 3960X and 3930K*

Oh I know this quite well. Take a look at my sig for a sec thumb.gif

I was just pointing out that as much of a waste of money as the 3960x is.... a new SRx build is even worse.

Right. But I still see a market for these. What if I want the brute compute power of a pair of Xeon E5 2687W chips, but I also want to game hard? Do the other workstation boards allow me to use SLI/Crossfire?

If so, then the SR-X is a waste, because EVGA isn't exactly known for quality like ASUS or SuperMicro are. If not, then there's still an interesting niche to address with these. However, as someone who does need lots of threads AND games, but doesn't have infinite money, I settle with chips like desktop-Gulftown or SNB-E.
