Chipset cooling what are my options? - Page 2

In which direction is your rad/fan in the rear blowing? If its exhaust you could turn it around and maybe place another fan on the inside. That should be sufficient.

Its exhaust, I have a triple rad up top so it would be a really bad idea to have it intake.

I have an X58 chipset on LGA 1366

What does your CPU overclock have to with your chipset? The chipset no longer has any impact on overclocking since it is just an PCIe and storage controller.

The chipset is rated for 100C (if I recall). Extra cooling will need yield any performance benefit.

I for one dont like hot spots. Lower temps = higher life

I wouldnt call it a really bad idea, but you may se a slight increase in watertemperature. Anyways, as DuckieHo states the temp is not really a problem.

If you want to add a block on (to be sure it will fit, unless people have done it before), you will need to measure the distance between the heatsink screw holes and clearance between the center of chipset and your card (double that to get max size). You need to take the chipset heatsink off though.
Also, don't forget about cooling the VRM/MOSFETs if you switch from the default heatsink.

By the way, Koolance also makes chipset/MOSFET blocks, just go through their compatibility thing. They don't cover nickel plating coming off anymore though, so up to you.

There's also http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/wahensbrenin.html (that I'll be getting I think) but you need to take pretty precise measurements.
