DL: Sabertooth 990FX BIOS 1304 with Updated RAID ROM

Sabertooth 990FX 1304 BIOS with RAID Option ROM version 3.3.1540.17

(This BIOS can be downloaded via ASUS web site)

FYI: You have to use RAID driver version 3.3.1540.17 or later with this RAID ROM, The new RAID ROM will use 100MB of system memory for caching.

What does this raid ROM do for the raid on the sabertooth?

I'm wondering if it will enable write back and read ahead. Thanks.

Posted this same question at AT forums also, from what I have read, some of the Gigabyte boards will allow the read ahead and write back functions but Asus has not implemented it yet.

Yes this ROM enables Read Ahead and Write Back Cache.

It also adds 256k stripe option, 64k, 128k and 256k are available.

You must use the provided RAID Driver with this ROM, Its also the same driver version as AMD released yesterday.

Will you try to integrate SLIC as well?

Hello garikfox,

it's nice to meet you again! You certainly will remember me and my work at nForcersHQ Forum.

Thanks for uploading the BIOS file containing the newest AMD RAID ROM module v3.3.1540.14. Since I was interested in this module, I have downloaded your modded BIOS and extracted the related OROM file.
Then I realized, that your modded BIOS contains 2 different AMD RAID ROM modules for different DeviceID's:
  1. a module v3.2.1540.6 for DEV_4392 with a size of 58KB and
  2. a module v3.3.1540.14 for DEV_4393 with a size of 64KB.
Are you sure, that the AMD RAID ROM version 3.3.1540.14 can be used with AMD SATA Controllers DEV_4392 too? And what should AMD users do with any other sort of AMD SATA RAID Controller?

Regards
Fernando

Why doesn't Asus build this into their stock bios? I got a huge boost with my M4's in Raid 0 with this.

Hi Fernando,

Each Option ROM for device ID 4392 and 4393 has a seperate MISC.ROM that goes with it, Uncompressed the MISC.BIN is 23k while the actual RAID Option ROM (4393) is 64k.

The MISC.BIN(s) are located with the GUID ending in FC and FD

For RAID 0/5 the Device ID is 4393, Device ID 4392 is for Non-RAID5

AMD SATA Controller (non RAID) aka AHCI is Device ID 4391 and that uses the AHCI module.

According to >this<</a> site DEV_4392 ist the AMD SB7xx RAID Controller, whereas DEV_4393 is the AMD SB8xx RAID Controller.
Question:
Do both Controllers generally use different RAID OROM modules from different strings or is the size difference between 58KB and 64KB caused by the bigger new version 3.3.1540.14?
If it should be the latter, users with an AMD SB7xx RAID Controller will be able to flash the same RAID ROM module v3.3.1540.14 as you have used, but have to highlight DEV_4392 while updating the RAID ROM version of their BIOS.

AMD SATA Controller (non RAID) aka AHCI is Device ID 4391 and that is the AHCI module, Im pretty sure that AHCI doesnt use a Option ROM but uses a module, There is a AHCI module in the list.
Yes, but after having extracted the AHCI modules for DEV_4392 and DEV_4393 I found out, that they seem to be identic with the RAID ROM Modules for DEV_4392 and DEV_4393. The AHCI module for DEV_4392 is v3.2.1540.6 and has a size of 58KB, whereas the AHCI module for DEV_4393 is 3.3.1540.14 with a size of 64KB.
Since you only have updated the RAID ROM module for DEV_4393, the AHCI module for DEV_4393 obviously has been updated automaticly too.

Fernando

The Device ID for AMD AHCI(AMD SATA Controller) is ID 4391, It has nothing to do with 3.3.1540.14 or 3.2.1540 Option ROM's

Yes the previos RAID ROM 3.2.1540.xx is 58k in size while the newer one is a little bigger at 64k in size.

For AMD RAID (aka Promise RAID) it uses two Option ROM's for there RAID

example:

ID 4392 uses Two ROMS(.BIN's) = SATARAD.BIN + MISCRAD.BIN (Non-RAID5)
---
ID 4393 uses Two ROMS(.BIN's) = SATARAD5.BIN + MISCRAD5.BIN (RAID 0 and RAID 5)

Thats a total of 4 .BIN's and thats all that I replaced with the above BIOS file.

Donor .BIN's were from MSi 990FXA-GD80 11.8 BIOS
