Additional GPU to an existing water loop

Hi all,

Just a quick question – if I have an existing water loop in my rig that consists of a CPU and and 2 GPU's, how hard is it to add a an additional GPU with a water block to the loop?

Do I need to drain the existing loop then add? Or is there an easier way?

The reason i ask is because I have 3 7970's at the moment (2x Sapphire 1 x ASUS DCUII) but waterblocks are only available for the sapphire and not the ASUS.

I wanted to set up the two now and then later add the ASUS one when the waterblock is released for it.

Is this an easy process?

You can save draining your entire loop by clamping off the tubing above the GPUs and only have to drain the cards instead of the whole loop. Add in the new card, and just be ready to add fluid to your res when you fire it back up to keep the pump from running dry.

I actually replace the pump in my computer without draining anything by turning the whole computer upside down (so my res and pump where at the top of the loop) and installing the pump upside down. Then when I put it right way up it just took a while to get all the air out again.

I have a drain pipe in my loop, pretty much at the lowest point I can make it, makes draining quite easy. If you know you going to be expanding/adding things to your loop you may aswell include one.

Thats just how I do it, find it easy.

Not at the moment mate, been meaning to take some pics and post em, made loads of changes since my last pics.

Basically I have two GPUs being cooled in parallel, at the bottom right hand corner of the parallel block I have my drain pipe hanging off an 45Degree Rotary fitting. Nothing fancy, but it does a good job getting the water out. Only reason the drain pipe isn't at the lowest possible point is because my rads mounted in the front of my Antec 1200 case, so the bottom of the rad is the lowest point.

On the 120 rad on the bottom.. I just cap the elbow then i just put a jug under it when i drain it.. Also the water which is at a higher point will syphon out when you open the drain off up! The reason i dont add drain pipes is because the water in that bit of pipe tends to go a bit stagnant over time as its not circulating

If past trends are to be followed, EK will be making a fullcover waterblock for the Asus DCII cards. Just be patient and wait for it.
