A little help needed with Monitor choices please!

Hi,
I am looking for advice from anyone who has had experience with or just flat out knows quality monitors from the list below. For my monitor use i am looking for a quality monitor to perform my duties below.

1) A good monitor with nice clean picture, good whites, blacks, etc.

2) Gaming - I just need a monitor that performs well but also i am not in need of the best or top of the line as i am not into competitive gaming ( no need for 120hz i don't think ).

3) Maybe watching Blue rays or DVDs from time to time.

4) General all around use. More less for gaming and movies.

5) I would like to stay in the 200 - 250 budget but if some feel i would be happier with the others listed below i could probably squeeze a little over 300.00

I will be updating my gpu from my 6770 HD soon to maybe a 6950 or a 560ti 448 but who knows. The monitors that interest me as of now are below. Also say if you feel the 24" UltraSharp is a better monitor out of the 24"ers, is the 100.00 difference as opposed to the 24" Asus that much better?

Another question, say some prefer the 24" UltraSharp would you pick that as well as opposed to a 27"er for roughly the same price? I also included the Dell 23" if some feel that is a better bargain as i am coming from a 20" so any of the below are going to seem that much bigger to me.

After 1 day with 24 views, let me be the first to respond.

From your first four points, you are neither a serious gamer nor a photo editor requiring accurate colour reproduction.  So, since the monitor is for 'general use - gaming and watching movies', I would propose to have a larger 27'' monitor over a relatively smaller 24'' one.  The extra size would bring a more enjoyable experience while casual gaming and movie watching.

Choosing between the Asus VE276Q and the Samsung S27A550H, the Asus would suit you more for 2 reasons:-

1) its price of US$280 fits your budget more

2) it has more inputs (DisplayPort, DVI-D, D-Sub, HDMI) vs the Samsung (D-Sub, HDMI).

While the Asus is a fairly basic entry level 27'' monitor, it should fit your needs OK.

Thanks for the response and suggestions. I was kinda leaning toward a 27"er because i think it would be pretty enjoyable gaming on it with my son. We usually play FPS on the PS3 and like to get very competitive but just recently started gaming on the PC again but not at the stage of being very competitive as of yet for the PC.

So needless to say i think a 27'er will suit us fine for the time being and thank you for your input. if there are any other 27'ers you would recommend besides the 2 i listed above feel free to list your recommendations. Thanks again!
