How to Improve CPU Usage?

Thread Starter
I've been having some problems with my computers performance. My CPU Usage keeps hitting 100% when I'm trying to do certain tasks. I do video editing and live streaming for console gaming (soon to do PC gaming as well) and everything works fine. However, when I live stream, I also try and record my stream to my hard drive. When I try and live stream and record it on to my hard drive at the same time, my CPU Usage stays at 100% and then my video's begin to lag and skip. How can I improve my computers performance? I heard that buying more Ram should do the trick, but I'm not to computer savy and figured that I would just come here and ask people who are.

Here is my PC Build

  • Processor - Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge
  • Motherboard - ASRock Z68 Professional Gen3
  • Ram - 8GB CORSAIR Vengeance DDR3 1600
  • Video Card - EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 560 1GB
  • Hard Drive - 500GB Western Digital 7200RPM
  • Power Supply - CORSAIR 850TX 850W
  • Operating System - Windows 7 Ultimate

Any help is much appreciated <3

Well first off, when recording never record to your OS/Game drive. It maxes out your read/write speeds and slows down tremendously so pick up an extra hdd dedicated to recording (I use a 1tb Spinpoint f3). Next OCing your 2500k should help a good amount.

I am recording to a separate hard drive, it's just for saving/editing video files. Not to sound like a noob, but I really have no idea how to overclock. I would try to myself but I don't wanna blow up my computer lol.

With a 2500k (a cpu made specifically for it) it's easy. There are guides everywhere on here

Ok, I'll definitely look into trying that out. Do you think buying more ram would make a difference as well?

What are you using to record?
Also as said above you really need a dedicated drive for recording to.

I run my OS W7 off my SSD, games off my Raid0 and record to my 1TB,smooth as can be.

I'm only using 2.46 GB so I guess I'm ok in that area. I just didn't know if maybe more RAM would be better. I don't see any reason as to why it would be necessary, I was just asking to make sure.

I have a dedicated drive solely for recording. I'm recording with XSplit Boradcaster.

I only mentioned the need for an extra drive as you didnt originally quote it in your specs or opening post wink.gif

I was reading up about Xsplit few days back and from what i can gather its very buggy still, many games still crashing, infact was it your post i comented on few days back about X-split?
