E6600 with 667mhz ram overclocking!(help)

Thread Starter
Hey guys I wanna OC my old pc to 3.6ghz with my e6600 and 667mhz ram

So should I just put it to 1:1 ratio and make my fsb 400 and put my ram as 800mhz manualy?
If I'm thinking right that should b it? Or would I need to up my ram volts or would it do it on auto if I put it to 800?

You can try to OC that RAM but you're better off just picking up some 800. It will take alot of time to OC/test your 667 and it will likely die on you not too far in the future.

4GB of GSkill 800 is like $30 on ebay.

Is it the conroe or the wolfdale CPU? If it's the 2.4ghz conroe then it might be pretty hard to get it to 3.6ghz.

It is a Conroe but tons of ppl r OC em to 3.6ghz but with ddr2 800+ But I'll just run it as it is on stock and see if she'll keep up with what I need it for..and I also added 2gb of ram 2 years ago, same settings and everything but just newer and there a lil slimmer then the ones I built it with over 5 years ago lol But b4 I even OC I'll b running some mem test to see if the probs I was getting last year r due to old crapped out ram...I only have the two newer sticks in now and it stayed on for 3.5hrs last nite with our locking up.(last year it worke fine but if it was just idle for 15-20 mind it'd freeze up...unplug power pull a stick of ram out boot up fine turn off put back in boot up fine...idle for 15-20 mins freeze up) my wife's cuz is a hard ware tech for a programing company and he narrowed it down to bad stick/s of ram or bad dimm slot/s or mobo(unlikely he said since its working 99% of the time) Well I'll post back in the next few days with my testing and such and see what I can figure out...and I'll prob just OC to 3ghz... 1:1 Fsb:ram 333mhz X 9(CPU) : 333mhz X 2(ram) = 3ghz OC at 1:1 ratio

Ratio's are not the same as they used to be back in the day. It used to be that memory controllers operated at optimal performance with a 1:1 ratio, but today they are just arbitrary numbers that mean nothing.

Literally all it means is your CPU fsb compared to memory speed. Memory speed and CPU FSB are two completely individual things now.

Is that what ur saying? If so thatd b 100x's ez'er!

Some E6600 only do 3.1-3.4, and my E6400 does 3.6... basically all chips are unique
