SOLVED!
********
it was the bios /facepalm.

***********************
First off sorry if this is the wrong forum, it just all started after installing the CPU so I'm figuring it has something to do with it.

So I upgraded from a AMD Athlon II X2 270 to the Phenom 2 x4 960t, i used Arctic Alumina thermal compound.
The cpu according to HWmonitor hasn't gone over 21 degrees Celsius, I'm using a Xigmatek gaia cpu fan/heatsink URL for cpu fan reference: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233082
Sig Rig is pretty accurate other than the CPU.

Anyway i was getting average of 45-50 fps in tribes ascend. (checked right before pulling the old cpu as i wanted to see the improvement).
After replacing the cpu its running at around 25-30 fps with big spikes pretty often.

Things i have done:

Reseated all ram,
Reseated video card,
Reinstalled (already up to date) drivers and set them back to previous settings.

Not sure where to go from here, not even sure if this is CPU related.
Thanks for your time OC, and once again sorry if this is the wrong place to post this.

just so we can isolate the potential issues, can you pop in your athlon x2 again.
it would make it easier to direct focus towards one thing.

Reinstall windows.

But on a more serious note, disable turbo / C&Q. Could be a BIOS issue as the 960t has more advanced power management... and this usually means its easier to fubar support in the BIOS.

i recommend you do that before trying anything.
you want to make sure 100% that it IS the new cpu
causing the issue and not another issue that just arose.
always deal in absolute thumb.gif

Ill give it a shot rq before i try reinstalling the dual core, but the cpu is supported by my mobo so it shouldnt be a problem.

So it does seem to be the new cpu. Put the athlon x2 back in and everything is back to normal.

I tried minecraft to see if the fps was just a problem with tribes since it is in beta, i couldnt even move, i was getting 1-10 fps lol, where normally i get a steady 30-50 fps in minecraft in far settings.

So what now? RMA? I bought it from Newegg so i have to look into their processor return policy, i know its some weird shenanigans. (sidenote why do i pay money to return a defective product? lol)

Not since i bought it, it has an update for 6 core support, and Update AGESA code Update APS function.

That might actually do the trick.

Edit: the 960t was made after the current bios was implemented, so this might fix it, gonna update bios rq and hope i dont brick it and then reinstall the 960t, ill chime in most likely tomorrow as its pretty late and im not sure if it will get done.

Thanks again guys.
