Erm.. Linux DOES get slower.. (XGL anyone?) BUT the new features (See XGL) can be turned on and off.. And the base software keeps getting faster.. And newer versions of the SLOW software are faster... Go linux!

So vista wont be able to turn off areo for games? That sucks..

Linux can slow down to a crawl also. It depends on the user. Smarter, more tech. savvy users know how to keep their OS in check, and since most Linux users are very tech. savvy they all know how to keep a nice and fast OS.

For most Linux OS'es you don't really need to know how to maintinance it, but there are specific things that haven't really gotten worked out yet (Stand-by and Hibernate states need to be fixed, but im pretty sure that has to do with the settings). For the small ones, like Damn Small Linux, it keeps itself in check fairly simple, and its really fast when run in RAM. Thats the advantage of the Linux structure, you can run it in RAM space and it will run at mega speeds.

I remember some games in windows 98, you had to reboot, and the computer would boot into the game. 100% of resources go to the game.

And I remember how it would crash or go to a BSOD at least 10 times a day.

DOS prompts... brings back memories. I started learning about computers at the final days of MS-DOS dominance, but it was still fun to mess around in DOS.
