As far as I know it isn't possible to install another Mac OS onto the Apple TV, but that aside, it's not powerful enough to handle Lion.

It's not powerful enough for Lion

I don't think that's possible. I believe the 1st generation Apple TV uses PowerPC hardware, I'm not sure if Windows supports that. You may be able to install OS X Tiger or Leopard, but... I've no idea really.

I think you can install XP on PowerPC hardware but it will be similar to trying to run 10.5+ on a Pentium 4.

Ehh, yeah the Apple TV wasn't made to run a desktop OS. Running ATV Flash to unlock more functionality is the best you'll probably get.

You might be able to install it on there but it would probably barely be usable. It has a Pentium M, 256MB of RAM and 64MB of VRAM. Even if you could get it on there, it wouldn't have the right drivers for that hardware. Also Windows XP needs BIOS, and the Apple TV has EFI. There's a guide out there for Leopard but it involves piracy so you're on your own.
