New build (AMD)

Thread Starter
Hey guys,
So I was thinking to myself last night that when I get a job I wanna build a new PC. I was planning to sell my one now to a friend for around £600-£700, not sure if that's accurate enough. Then I'll use that money plus some more to build and new PC..

So I've had a look around and a look at some stuff and still looking at stuff that I can just install, overclock and then leave for 5-6 years without any problems. So here is what I am looking at and I am open to suggestions:

AMD
CASE: Corsair 650D (Open to suggestions)
CPU: AMD FX 6200 Black Edition, S AM3+, 3.8GHz, 14MB Total Cache, 125W, Retail
Mobo: Asus Sabertooth 990FX AMD 990FX AM3+ Motherboard
GPU: XFX HD 6950 XXX AMD Radeon Graphics Card - 2GB
PSU: Corsair Gaming Series GS 800 CMPSU-800G UK 800W Power Supply
RAM: Open to suggestions
CPU COOLING: H100
HDD: 1TB Western Digital Caviar Green Hard Drive

EDIT:
INTEL
CPU: Intel CPU Core i5 2500 Sandy Bridge Quad Core Processor
GPU: EVGA 1280MB GeForce GTX 570 HD Superclocked NVIDIA Graphics Card
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 Socket 1155 Motherboard
PSU: Corsair Gaming Series GS 800 CMPSU-800G UK 800W Power Supply
RAM: Open to suggestions
HDD: 1TB Western Digital Caviar Green Hard Drive
CPU COOLING: H100

Baring in mind I'm taking my sound card and SSD out of my system to put in the new one.

I hope you guys can help me make the right choice.

Thanks

I'd go with Intel. More options to upgrade later. And as for RAM, get some of that samsung stuff, seen alot of people saying it's cool, and overclockes really well.

instead of a H1oo which i think is a wast of money you can get a XSPC Rasa 750 RS240 Universal CPU Water Cooling Kit which performs better at almost the say price biggrin.gif and go with a 960T instead of a FX6200 thumb.gif

Hello there, the build looks solid. You went with Asus, which is a very reputable company, for a motherboard. For a case though, do you really want the window on the side? if not you can go with the 550D and save a couple of bucks. And as for RAM, you cant go wrong with this:

Other than that, it looks all good.

Or if you are stuck for money and still want to overclock for cheap, get a Cooler Master Hyper 212+ or evo. Or if you can find one, a V6GT. I have one and it is awesome.

Edit: the link for RAM didn't show up. The RAM is called G.Skill Ripjaws Series 4GB (2x2GB). It's $29.99 a kit on Newegg, and totally worth it.

Wow, only 30 bucks. thats a steal at that price, but it is only 4gb. You really want at least 6gb and try to get 8gb. But 4GB is alright.

You got that right. Yea, 8GB of RAM is really what you want, but if your only looking for 4, thats a great kit of RAM.

I'd go with an Intel build with a 2500k and a gigabyte z68 rev 3 motherboard to be honest mate. as mentioned above it will give you upgrade options and yeah I know you are going for a AM3+ board but seriously the Intel products kick AMD's butt. I will be looking soon at dropping an Ivy Bridge 1155 processor into my z68x-ud3r-b3 board and can't wait. Just my 2cents.gif
