[EAGP] EA Rolls Out Three Themed Expansion Packs for BF3. - Page 15

The issue seems to be very DICE specific in that it takes a heck of a long time to fix bugs ever. At least with BF3 they are attempting to balance. Anyone who believes DICE hasn't been bad at bugfixing needs to take off the rose tinted glasses and look at some of the patch notes and forum archives. If anything, DICE is being MORE proactive these days, in scale with the scope of their audience, but it's still bad.

Anyone who played BF2 as well as BF2142 knew that Special Forces and Northern Strike led to haves and have nots (for BF2 G36E, L96A1, P90, and...practically everything added on top of Northern Strike). Short of the grossly overpowered FAMAS, at least B2K isn't splitting the community (though of course it helps that it was given away to anyone who preordered the game, and that's practically the whole community. As for community splitting, I'm going to point towards Armored Fury and Euro Force, the most likely equivalents to Armor Kill and Close Quarters. At least it's more specific in terms of the themes, but unless there are some spectacular Strike at Karkand level maps, they will probably die off after you get your assignment's worth of weapons. Actually in my opinion the timings are very smart, people will be tided over doing achievements until Armored Kill, and chances are the smaller time gap between Armored Kill and End Game is for the probable lack of assignment weapons.

The theme's in my opinion make it easier to subdivide servers into your interests. Some people want Metro style maps, CQ can give people more of that. Some want Caspian/Oman Large maps, and Armored Kill will hopefully provide that. In my opinion, these are hybrid booster packs and expansion packs. You can cynically view them as map-packs with added weapons on the side (potentially creating have's and have-not's) or an expansion of options.

If you're of the opinion that BF3 is incomplete in terms of content, again I'm going to point you to BF2, BF2142, BF:BC2, etc.which shipped with a similar amount of maps. and similarly had something between 3 - 9 months of stupid annoying or even gameplay hampering/crash bugs. Whining is just stronger because the scope of the release and the goals it set for itself are so much greater. DICE is simply not keeping up.

At the end of all of this, I still support DICE because their games are where I've spent a significant amount of time and made friends and had epic moments that others in Battlefield can understand, and it provides its own unique kind of fun. If you don't want or like EA or Origin or DICE, or its methods, then just don't buy the expansion packs and keep the criticism friendly, but let's keep everything in perspective, shall we?

I remember back in the old days an expansions pack was just as big as all three of those "expansions" where. And they cost the same as just one of those expansions.

What sucks is that people will buy those expansions, in droves. Servers will quickly add support for them and the next thing you know people who didn't want to buy them will buy them for they don't get kicked out of the server for not having the map.

With the lack of mod support you're forced to buy the DLC (because really, they are just small DLC packs) if you want new content. It just sucks.

Exactly, but the other thing is with DLC it means they can spend less development time on a smaller game to get the original game out. Then they can keep adding DLC to what amounts to a game with less content off the shelf.

The cost of being a gamer seems to be rising exponentially as of late. I know I'm not forced to buy it, but still, what happened to the good old feature packed expansion packs we use to know? I guess that's to generous for the likes of EA.
After what EA did to Mass Effect 3 I just have no desire to purchase anything from them in the future. So I think I will just have fun with BF3 + B2K until the next best thing comes out that's not attached to EA.

Umm im not sure what your talking about but those DLC actually seem = to the expansion and booster packs of BF2

Special ops 30$ maybe 15 or so new weapons and gadgets, 8 new maps, 10 new vehicles, boosterpacks 10$ each; 5 new guns for euroforce and maybe 3 new vehicles with 3 new maps. Armored Fury 3 new maps and six new vehicles no new weapons.

BTK was 4 maps 10 weapons and 3 vehicles for 15$ and came free if you preordered. Yes DICE certaintly robbed you alright, this is no different the content the booster packs offered and 2 dlc packs would be equal to special forces. I for one cannot wait but not sure if I will be getting the infantry pack.

I never played BF2 but that sounds like a huge rip off too me. They sure milked you good if you paid for all that crap.

I did however play BF2142 and when I tried to buy the booster back it never let me join a northern strike server. I spent a half hour talking with EA support demanding a refund, which I received.

I never said this practice was new. Also I never bought all that crap with BF2 and I don't plan to with BF3, so no they didn't rob me.

They milked me good? I only bought special forces, however even if I did buy everything thats 15 new maps, maybe 15 new guns, 20 new vehicles for 50$ for a game which I already enjoy. I do not see ppl complaining about how wow and other mmos cost 15$ a month. Also you were willing to buy 2142 northern strike possibly the most ripoff dlc in Battlefield history. Not all DLC is adequately priced but for Battlefield it is, I got BTK for free but even if I paid 15$ for it I got 30 hours of entertainment from those maps alone with more to come. While I would spend more than 15$ if I went out with friends. People complain about videogames being more expensive than back in the day when costs of everything have gone up.

I honestly do not understand all the flaming in here. I mean if you don't like the gameplay then fine. But I just don't see how BF3 isn't a complete game.

It has:

A single player mode
Co op mode with like 6 or 7 missions
A multiplayer with 9 to 13 maps and 5 or 6 gametypes
so much stuff to unlock

It is just completely worth your money. And I hardly ever have any issies with it. I have put in over 100 hours in the MP alone with hardly some real problems.

People should stop moaning about the so called price of B2K btw. If you bought the regular BF3 edition for full price you're not being smart yourself. Either you should have gotten the LE or wait long untill the price drops of the vanilla game and buy the expansion. If you payed for both you're just a sleeper and not very smart.

Single player was a waste of resources. If it's battlefield you're looking for it's in the multiplayer. Plenty of other games with generic modern military single player.
Co-op mode is a joke and people only play it to grind of weapons.
Speaking of grind the unlocking system is complete nonsense and repetitive. Especially vehicle unlocks(flares) I bet this is why they nerfed the stinger so badly and now it's getting a buff in the next patch. GEE i wonder why(ecm, flare all day). I think it's okay for weapon unlocks but when you have to unlock every damn attachment for every gun it gets really annoying. Having unlocks doesn't add depth to the game it just makes it harder to balance the game and more frustrating. I'm glad i didn't pay full price.
