If you are just gonna complain that DLCs cost money or they should be cheaper or all one DLC and all that crap, wake up. Dev costs go up for game devs over time. This isnt ten years ago when devs were all making simple PS2 games. As games get better development costs go up, so devs make things like DLCs and make games that have more sequels so that they dont have to simply charge $100 for a game. No one likes spending money but you can hardly complain about this with any legit reasoning.
If I use the same reasoning many of you haters are using then Bioware should be condemned for releasing mass effect as 3 games instead of 1.

Then how come even though Mass Effect 3 had an larger budget than ME1, it is exponentially worse?

Dev's make DLC's to raise the price of the game, that's the only purpose these small additions serve. I beat ME1 and 2 and the difference in content is blindingly obvious. I have no doubt that all the DLC released for ME2 (and ME3) were planned out from the start. This allows them to release the game at full price earlier in the development cycle while charging extra for already planned parts of the game.

Everyone said about Mass Effect 2 that "you don't have to buy the DLC, its a complete game on its own" but when you play ME3 you find that major plot elements are dependent on that DLC from ME2. It's not the same logic as saying developers shouldn't make sequels, its just saying that people just want to buy a game and play it without worrying about what they're missing out on.

Come on the difference between modern games and PS2 games is not that huge, If anything PS2 era games were far more complete than the crap we have to pay for today. If anything they make more money considering the games are available indefinitely as digital downloads on all platforms.

I'm not buying Mass Effect 3 and I'm not buying these DLC's. But don't you tell me that development costs are so high that they need to create all these DLC's to milk the customer dry. Recent games that I paid full price for are Dark Souls and Tales of Graces f which are fully featured games not designed to be dependent on DLC.

Heck even games like Uncharted and Infamous are making plenty of money without relying on DLC. If you want PC examples look at Shogun 2, it has a single DLC and a planned full expansion for 30$, just like PC games used to have.

Re-read what you quoted. He said as games get better development costs go up. He DID NOT SAY that games get better BECAUSE development costs go up.

To the haters: If you buy all three, it's $45 (maybe.) Back in the day expansion packs were usually 30-40 dollars anyway, so *provided it is good* I can see how it would be worth it. That said... doubt I'll be buying "close quarters."

I don't quite remember, but how much was Battlefield 2 when it first came out and how much were the expansions individually?

Semantics.

They both mean the exact same thing, games get better because the people who make it are skilled at making games not because you pay them more or because you pay more for the game.

I remember back in the day buying expansion packs and one expansion pack would equal the content of three or four of these DLC packs. Difference now is that they can charge you twice as much for that content in smaller packages.

Again, Mass Effect 1 was a great game with at least 60 hours gameplay, ME2 and ME3 have about 30-35 hours max if you explore everything and do side quests. What may you ask brings the play time up to 60 hours like ME1? Well DLC of course. Why make a complete game when we can release half the game for 60$ earlier in the development cycle and then charge for the rest of the game in DLC's that end up raking in another 60$ or so.

It's not hard to see the same business practice at play with BF3 and B2K. The only reason it wasn't day one DLC is because the game was released months before it should have.

Really it's genius, their essentially doubling their profits for the same amount of effort.

You sir only have a 2 year degree in trolling. Keep working at it, that phd takes years of work and dedication. B2k was not day one, though I wish had been.

You're calling me a troll because I compared to completely different games.

Ok I enjoyed UT:GO more or even UT2004 oh ok maybe CS 1.6, CSS, CS:CZ oh but wait there's more Q3A, UT3(mods are abundant), BC2 and Q4.

All of which are FPS and all of which I felt I got my monies worth. All of which aren't filled with relentless DLC that costs a lot of money.

Games with DLC I feel I got my monies worth out of.

F.E.A.R, Borderlands(FPS still)

That's a pretty big list of games that felt complete and not thrown together and then put on the shelves to slap the public in the face with stupidity.

I'll admit entirely I enjoy playing BF3. Do I feel down inside that it was worth $60? Absolutely not. $35-$40 at best and If I felt it was worth buying the DLC that should be no more than $10 each pack.

That is the monetary value that I get the feeling of when I play that game, I feel like it was not only rushed, bugged and overpriced, but that there were plenty of other games that I personally feel like money well spent.

games being on different platforms and of different genre means nothing when you are considering the overall quality of the product, its all about the game being complete, immersive and feel like its all there from the start. Think about back in the day when you had a NES,S-NES or any other console or handheld that could not connect to the internet. If a game came out with bugs and glitches which games still did, you couldn't just hop on the ol internet and google the patch. Games back then HAD to be all there or it did not sell.

I think I am pointing out a valid point be it you may be of the younger generation(Its not like I know how old you are) but regardless my point is valid and I'm sure a lot of people would agree with me on this. Like I said I like to play BF3 doesn't mean I have to feel like it was money well spent.

Maybe you should rephrase that. Your statement doesn't make sense.

I already explained what I mean't in the rest of my comment that you didn't quote.

If you need evidence as to why the game shouldn't have been released I can give you plenty. I pre-ordered the game and have been playing it since launch. There have been literally gigabytes worth of patches and there are still glitches in the game like the whole MRV flying that snipers use to get on top of buildings.

infantry maps really, not a fan at all. So we pretty much have to wait a full year from the games release to get any decent sized maps, or any true real dlc, which probably should have been in the game the first time. laaammee dice and ea very lame.
