[Lab501] CEBIT 2012 - XFX HD 7870 GHOST

XFX is one of the legendary producers of graphics cards that dared to release factory overclocked models ready on time when the practice was still taboo, but meanwhile has become common, everybody does it and deleted glory XFX to May, especially since they decided to use only AMD GPUs.

The cooler looks good, but i think xfx tried to combine your normal heat piped/dual fan cooler and making the hot air exit from the I/O bracket. Its thoughtful, but i think +ve pressure builds up and heats up the components all around the gpu, before the hot air diffuses out.

Wish that the cooler performed as well as the Twin Frozr's/Dual X's/Windforce's etc. It looks so damn good, but the cooling performance doesn't seem like much of an improvement over the reference designs (going off XFX 7970 and 7950 reviews).

Most of the reviews I've seen seem to provide mixed results, some have the cards doing extremely well temperature wise while other show it performing worse then the reference design. I'm still hesitant to purchase anything with the XFX name on it though because of past business tactics of using low end components on cards and denying warranty service for a multitude of reasons.

Regardless I would like to see XFX stop bu----iting and get back in the game because back in the day they were an awesome company. Maybe this will be a turning point for them though as they do seem to be trying harder now in the market.

I'm not a real fan of XFX's 80's style radios looking shrouds that they put all over the 7 series cards so far.

I really like the design of this card. Solid and simple is what anything needs. Just one thing I wish they would add; and every other company add, is a backplate. Since card has to be upside-down in most cases, no one really wants to look at the back side of the pcb. Sure the front looks great but unless your PC is elevated above you, and has a window, then your not going to see it.

I hope someone makes aftermarket backplates for like $15 for reference/twin frozr 7000 series cards. Because I'd totally grab a couple.
