Is this above average?

Thread Starter
I found that my ram (4x 2 GB G.Skill Ripjaw 1600 CL9) can go really tight on timings at lower speeds.
When running at 1400 to 1600 mhz it doesn't go below CL9 or CL8.
And I can't get it to run any faster than 1600 even at CL11.

So it seems my ram scales downward really well... with that said, does this looks above average or good???

402

It seems I have gotten DDR2 like timings with my DDR3....

my crosshair IV formula won't let me lower the timings any more than it already is, otherwise I am fairly sure i can go lower! (like it literally doesn't have the option to go lower.....)

The lower the frequency the longer in real time one clock cycle is, so it's not surprising that lowering the RAM frequency allows tighter latencies.

Unfortunately there is no tangible system performance gains with DDR3 on desktop PCs with RAM frequencies above ~1333 MHz. or lower frequencies. Benches show a small gain but most real world apps do not show any tangible benefit. You might find ~1333 MHz. to be the best for your system?

I have my processor just about maxed at the current FSB setting (280). So the next higher ram multiplier makes it run at ~1400 which has terrible timings that I can achieve.

I know there is not really a tangible change, like 1-4 fps in a game, or .5 mb/s faster in ram benchmarks.... but its a numbers game for me. If someone tells me lower is better, then I am going to push for the lowest timings possible even if I can't see the benefits.

I am just having trouble finding similar speeds and the associated timings, so I can't compare to anyone.....

So like, whats a really good timing for 1333? Is CL5 considered really good for 1333 DDR3?

CL 5 @ 1333 MHz. is very good IME. It depends on your definition of "real good" I guess. wink.gif Many people can get CL 6 so you're doing a bit better than most at CL 5.
