My first water-cooling build, any flaws in the plan?

I'm planning my first water-cooling build, using:

* Antec P280 (the Corsair 550D is too flimsy for me)
* ASUS P9X79 WS
* EK Supreme HF Nickel + Acetal (EN)
* Black Ice SR1 240
* 2 x Noctua NF-F12 fans
* Swiftech MCP35x + MCP35x-Res
* Tygon R3603 1/2" ID / 3/4" OD tubing
* Distilled water + PT_Nuke (may consider clear EKoolant)
* Possibly Swiftech MCP35x-HS
* Bitspower matt black compression fittings

Here's a rough diagram I made (everything is the correct scale):

It's a simple CPU only loop. Any flaws in the plan for this? I'll be custom shortening & sleeving the MCP35x wires, as the pump (w/reservoir) will sit right next to the PSU (not in the diagram above).

Wouldn't placing the pump a bit higher, preferably in the 5.25" bays, be better? I'm no watercooling expert, but I guess there will be an increase in the water-flow.

Actually, if I use the MCP35x-HS (heatsink), the pump & reservoir will stand up on four legs - so that'll elevate the pump somewhat. I also thought about placing the pump & reservoir in the removable drive cage area on the right, but that extends the tubing so I opted not to do that.

Actually, I updated the image to reflect that idea, and it does look much better. It means ditching my MCP35x pump for something else, but the layout is much cleaner.

I have a Rasa RS240 kit in my rig and is looks about the same as the picture above. You could look into getting a pump/res combo that would fit into the 5.25 bay to save space.

Yes, this looks cleaner.  But I wonder whether this configuration would have an disadvantage of drainage.  That is, it is relatively less convenient to drain the loop (if and when this needs to be done) than having the pump+res at the bottom of the case.

 

One comment on the original configuration in the OP:- If you do go with the MCP35X + MCP35X-res, I suggest using the top side port as inlet.  The top port will be used as a fill port.  This makes adding coolant much easier.  See pic below.  (The green line is the level of coolant/distilled water in res)

Nice, I like your modification. For simplicity I'm thinking of going with an XSPC 5.25" bay reservoir, such as this:

...Sidewindercomputers has them here. This would shorten my loop, although as you say, draining it would be very difficult - although I'm looking into "T-line's".

Just make a t-line here and you should be able to drain most of the coolant.

Yep. I tried bay res and totally freaking hated it. I would go with the first option.

Use one of those clips and place the pump/res higher. If u want to save tubing. Dont get bayres.
Also with option 1, you could drain by tipping over the res. Saving 20usd on fittings. If u need to go budget. I totally went overboard and spent a lot i didnt actually need.
