So what do you think 2 580 or 1 590

I thought I would go with 3 24 inch monitors at first but 21.5 is wonderful (and I would prefer them at the distance I sit)

Have you ever used a triple screen setup? It's incredible. So much screen space. I really think you would be satisfied with 3 21.5 screens. Higher PPI also. Use the money you save on screens to get a 590 + 580 (you can do that right? I know you can go with a 6990 + 6970) what good are big screens with low fps?

No you can't do 590 and 580 I might use amd then idk because I want nvidia

What mobo/cpu setup do you have?

SLI 580s would perform better than a single 590, but if your mobo only has two slots then you kind of shoot yourself in the foot if you wanted to upgrade.

SLI 590s would be an absolute beast.

If those are your choices, I would probably grab the 590, then later down the line after prices drop, grab another if you want more power.

That's unfortunate frown.gif

Well I think you should start with two 580s (3gb if possible) and you can always add a third later if you aren't satisfied. But just remember with the new series of nvidia GPUs coming out it may be difficult finding a matching cards. I was unable to get another sapphire flex card for my computer so I have a reference sapphire card plus my flex. It works good but doesn't look as good.

6990 has two 6970 GPUs on it. So you can X-fire a 6990 with a 6970.

ATI is a bit more flexible with multiple cards.

A 7970 has a different GPU though, can't crossfire it with a 6870

You can do certain cards, not all. AFAIK 6990/6970/6950 work together, and certain other cards work together but its specific. None of them work with the new 79xx line, though, and I dont know if 7950/7970 work together or not. Any more info than that you will have to ask someone or research yourself. Nvidia side its a lot more strict. They have to be the same GPU with the same memory bus width and the same working parts (for example, a GTX 460 1GB and GTX 768MB are the same GPU and physically the same card but the 768 has a portion of the card disabled, and these will not work together). A lot of the confusion happens in the 460/560 lines since there are so many variations of them, but you shouldnt be looking at these anyway for your needs.

I would recommend either:
Waiting for the new Nvidia card to come out this (rumored) month. See what happens. If anything the price of 580s could drop.

Buying now, get a pair of 7970/7950s. Unless you need Nvidia for something, which it sound like you dont, as of right now AMD is a better buy for the money.

It just depends on if you are in a hurry to buy or not.
