Saying Goodbye to x58 - Page 2

Your two 5770's are the weak spot in your system, not the CPU, Mobo, or RAM set up you have.

If you check post No3 thats what i am talking about, but with less words biggrin.gif To buy something now when new tech is about to hit the stores is not ideal. His reply to me was than he wants to upgrade now, his money, his decision i guess.

He comes to this forum asking for advice, or feeling remorse, I will give him the medicine I feel he needs. When he say's his computer can't take it, I take it to mean:

1. My workstation applications or Coding are being affected = I'm losing wads of money, need performance NOAW

or

2. My system is so old and components so weathered, that they seem to be facing terminal illness and will soon die from over use

Unless OP falls into those categories, OP should and Will wait.

It is less than 2 months away. LESS THAN 2 MONTHS. FOR A FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE INCREASE. If nothing else, sb will be loads cheaper on the Bays.

Yeah. I'm holding onto my i5 760 - it still keeps up with the big boys and I think until Ivy comes in and knocks Sandy prices down a little, there's not much of a point at the moment.

That said, on the flip side this also means X58 systems will lose their price premium even more as Ivy and SB-E push the speed envelope some more.

What do you mean? I'm using a phenom ii x6 which is worse than your 960, and it will be good for at least another 2 years. As other guys said a better upgrade is a good graphics card like a 7950 or 7970.

OffTopic: I'd be a terrible person by saying this wouldn't I? But I'm getting rid of this because I AM BORED. plus my parents need a new computer. They get my mobo/cpu/ram, and I get a new build. I'm a terrible person, I know #firstworldproblems. I salute the veteran x58 owners though!

I'm in the same boat. 3 years strong and my 920 is still kicking butt. What could you possibly be doing that your 960 isn't powerful enough? Your better off using the money you would spend on a new cpu and mobo and upgrading your gpu (although I would wait for kepler, or get southern island cards), invest in a mechanical keyboard, sound card and some audiophile headphones to pair it up with. You won't be disappointed with those upgrades. Much more satisfying than a side-grade.

Honestly, I almost went with a used X58 build over my Z68 build... That chipset is still extremely powerful especially with the 6-cores.

Have you thought about that Buckshot? Instead of building a completely new rig, you can just drop a 980x or 970 into your current motherboard. They're about $350-400 used for the 970.
