PC Freezes (Event ID 6008)

Thread Starter
I just recently built the rig in my sig. Everything is pretty much smooth sailing until I play games.
I get random crashes; pc would freeze up and the sound would just hang.
I've tried researching the issue throughout the internet without any success.
So, I come to you guys asking for help.
I ran both cpu & gpu stress test (Intel Burn Test, Prime95, Furmark) without any problems.
I would also like to add that both my cpu and gpu are not overclocked and no temperature issues.
I've tried reformatting but still get the same Event ID 6008 error.
The weird thing is, the crashes are completely random.
I would play Battlefield 3 for 1-3 hours without any problems then the next day 5-10mins in I would crash.
Same goes with any other games I play such as Modern Warfare 3, Starcraft 2, Counter-Strike, and so on.
For example, earlier today I was playing MW3 single player and 2-3 minutes in, my pc freezes up.
I reboot and check the Event Log and I see the same error, Event ID 6008.
I Tried playing MW3 SP again but this time no crash.

How long have you run IBT, P95 or Furmark?

Tonight, try leaving your computer on and running MemTest86+ all night long. That will tell you if you have memory problems.

I've tried running MemTest86+ but I dont think its ready my memory correctly. Its telling me I'm running triple channel and my cpu as i7 3500. Is that normal?

Are you using the latest version? Make sure you download and run the latest version of Memtest. If Memtest is still reading your memory incorrectly, we may have found the problem, as it is able to properly tell me my memory and CPU config. It doesn't look like anyone is reporting a problem like you're experiencing with it online.

Now I look at it, I was using an outdated version. Will run the memtest overnight. Will report back tomorrow.

Ran the memtest86+ overnight without any errors.
Honestly, I was hoping I ran into an error so I can just send the ram back and get new ones and be over with this nonsense hmmsmiley02.gif

I wonder if a faulty PSU could do that. Can you check with a different PSU

Also can you check with unplugging a GPU and using only 1 at a time?

Just throwing some wild guess

Try raising your NB voltage (if you can). From what I've been reading thats about as close as I could get to an answer.

Couple more questions:

1. Do you get this problem no matter what settings you select? Like, if you set the game to really low settings, or a different resolution, is the problem still there?
2. Does this happen when you watch videos in full-screen?

I don't think it would be the PSU, because it's unlikely that a game will put more stress on the computer than stress tests. We can quickly confirm this by simultaneously running both P95 and Furmark. If you start getting errors then, we may just have our culprit.

Testing it with one GPU is a good idea. In fact, if you have any other GPUs that aren't dual GPUs, try that. If you don't get problems with a single GPU, then we know that one or both of the GPUs are bad, and/or there's a problem with the mobo SLI controller.

Something to note: Furmark is great at loading a GPU, but it isn't the best at testing all of the GPUs functions. A number of times while OCing, I've found that I'm completely stable in Furmark but as soon as I open a game, *CRASH*. The Heaven Benchmark is actually a much better GPU stress test (IMO).

The NB doesn't really exist on the SB platform anymore. And if he's not OCing, then raising voltages shouldn't be the answer.
