Help with a Build

Thread Starter
Im probably going to do the big ram/cpu/mobo upgrade soon because of my birthday.

I got a radeon 5770 and i mainly play WoW and my current setup is a quad core amd 2.2ghz, 5gb DDR2, and idk what motherboard, it was stock on this HP that i bought a long time ago, like 2007.

Just wondering what type of semi good parts would go together. Not looking to spend too much, but dont need much excess power, but would like to play WoW on ultra.

Any suggestions? Ill also be buying the Haf mid tower. i think its 922 but im not sure. the blue one smile.gif

i3 2100, with a H67/p67/z68 cheap board, and 8Gb of some cheap stuff would be a great budget WoW rig. Cheap and miles ahead of what you have.

This.

Also, happy birthday!

Oh, and AAAALSO, realize that in a few short weeks, Ivy Bridge will be released and you can pick up the 3570k - which is the equivalent to the 2500k in the current generation of CPU's - and which will be a screaming OC'er.

That's what will be going into my sig rig when Ivy comes around.

i probably wont be overclocking. But how much will the ivy bridge cost compared to this sandy bridge? would it be worth the wait?

and is it likely that my current cound card and dvd drives and nic will work on the new mobo? like i said i dont know much about mobos except for pci stuff and RAM compatibility. ive never had to pay attention to details with processors and other things like sound cards. Ive only done pcu, graphics, HD, and PSU although id imagine im going to pick up on stuff just fine.

im definitely excited for getting an intel cpu though, im not a big fan of intels cpu's, but i do like the graphics more than invidia. tongue.gif

Ivy bridge will be the same price/very similar to Intels current lineup.
BUT
If your not overclocking, there is no reason to get the "k" series CPU's. (the only difference is they have an unlocked multiplier for easy overclocking.)

Instead, save some money and get:

i5 2400 - $189
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115074

If you will fill out your rig in your profile so we know exactly what you have (or just list them here to start).

Likely the sound card will be fine. The ASRock Motherboard has a good onboard NIC, so no worries there. is your DVD drive IDE or SATA?

Edit: I would highly suggest you look into some overclocking tutorials (and we'd be glad to help here). You can literally change 2-3 settings in BIOS, and get the 2500k from 3.3 -> 4ghz

Why would you not overclock?I mean..2500K @ stock..isn't that stellar.
I just sold my backup rig to a friend who was running some awful old setup.
It was:
biostar h61mgc
and celeron g530
That setup was pretty snappy biggrin.gif
We need some idea of a budget amount..
