[Work Log] Corsair 550D Build

Thread Starter
My Corsair 550D comes today, so I thought there may be a few people interested in how it looks, what will fit, etc. It's not going to be too extravogant, as I will only be cooling my CPU, but if anyone is thinking of buying the case and has any questions, let me know. I acutally plan on finishing this one, unlike my Switch 810 build log smile.gif The parts are as follows:

Corsair 550D
Seasonic x1050
Asus P67 WS Revolution
Intel 2600K
Crossfire 7970s
RAID 0 Crucial M4 128GB
Western Digital 1TB Black
Western Digital 2TB Green
LG Blu Ray ROM

Danger Den Monsoon Reservoir
XSPC EX240
GT AP-15's
XSPC Raystorm CPU block
Swiftech 655 variable pump.

I just took a few pics last night, but I didnt have time to upload them, so I will do that tonight. My initial feel is that its a nice case, but it definately doesnt have that 800D feel to it. Its a little cheaper, but not bad. I really like its design and layout.

As for the water cooled 7970s, I almost did, then decided not to worry about the cards. I noticed when running eyefinity like I originally was, the main card got real warm powering that many pixels at idle, but I believe I am going to ditch eyefinity, save up, and convince the wife a Dell U3011 is required smile.gif

Heres a few pics of the case unboxed. I want to start installing some components and work on wire management. Ill probably leave my zalman on the CPU for now until I get the time to leak test

Few more pics. Ditched water over the weekend, all parts are sold to wonderful members here on OCN. I'll probably go with an H100 down the road, and stick with my ole Zalman for now.

added some carbon fiber vinyl to cover up the seasonic ugliness

And will be creating my own custom cable for my hard drives to fit them perfectly

I'll be doing the same thing with my CD ROM and 8 PIN CPU cable, but I ran out of pins, so I have to wait for those to come in. I also had some 18AWG wire for the hard drives that worked, but overall I created it too snug, so I ordered better wire and will do it again when it arrives.

No problems whatsoever yet. There looks to be about 2 inches from the top to the top of my board, should be OK for a thin rad + fans. I'll be tossing the H100 in there soon. Theres another 120/140 cutout at the bottom, but its a tight fit, and youd need a short PSU like the AX850 to fit. I have the Seasonic X-1050 and it starts to overlap.

hi there,

I just got a corsair 650S and a seasonic 1050x. The manual for Seasonic says that the PSU can be installed with the fan facing the mobo? Would i not instead put the PSU 'upside down' with the fan facing the opening in the bottom of the corsair case, the way you seemed to have done?

thank you for your feedback!

Jonathan

Most cases wouldnt allow you to put your PSU on its side without modding. Some cases have the ability to mount it on its side though.
