[Buildlog] Echo Cascade: Reanimation

Greetings, folks.

This is a sort of re-build log. I built my sig rig with an FX-8150, and I don't need anybody here to tell me it was a bad idea. Through a string of bad and good luck, I managed to get myself a new processor, and now I find myself here. I will be completely taking this apart, so short of less unboxing pictures (unless you really want the old ones) I'm going to try to run a much better build log. This includes remanaging cables and all sorts of other fun things I've recently learned how to do/gotten better at. Green means I have it, Red means I need it, Blue means it is on the way (I'd use yellow but its hard to see XD)

Let's break it down:

Case: Xigmatek Elysium Black w/ Window

Power: Corsair AX1200

Motherboard: MSI Big Bang XPower-II

Storage: Crucial M4 64GB, 2TB WD Caviar Black

RAM: Two sets of 2x4GB G.SKILL Ripjaws X DDR3 2133

Heatsink: Corsair H100 with two Scythe Gentle Typhoon AP-31 fans

Fan Controller: Sunbeam Rheobus-Extreme with red LED mod

Graphics: EVGA GTX 670 4GB

Hooked up to: Three LG IPS226V-PN 21.5" 1080p IPS monitors

and finally....

Processor: Intel 3930K

I am on spring break for the next week, so hopefully some of this goes through. First off, to sell the CHV and FX-8150 so I can afford a good motherboard. Currently debating primarily between the MSI BigBang XPower-II and EVGA X79 Classified. With the size of the Elysium, the XL-ATX will still look like a normal ATX in a regular size case. It looks really empty in there with just the ATX.

Thoughts, comments and suggestions are always welcome. Any ideas for simple case mods (besides a window) will definitely be considered, I'm starting to get more confident with my abilities.

Minor update - I started working again today ^_^ should be buying the rest of these parts in a month or so. Stay tuned!

Well we're almost there. Planning to order the XPower II next week. Also, it was on sale, so I picked up a second set of 2x4GB GSkill RipjawsX 2133 RAM to use instead of the Corsair Vengeance 1600. H100 is in the mail today, courtesy of user vdn20

So minor update. The H100 I got in the mail was broken. The radiator is trashed.

NEW PLAN

1) Get another H100 (which is on its way, currently somewhere in Mass)

2) Get Big Bang XPower II

3) Set up new 3930K rig with the GTX580 folding 24/7, GTX460 2Win folding whenever I’m not gaming, and the 3930K folding whenever I’m not just browsing the web or whatever.

4) Mod the broken H100 to act as a chipset waterblock. This will allow me to get rid of the horribly ugly bullet-style heatsink and put the still-good pump/res to work. I’ll probably go with either a 140mm or 240mm radiator, and add a second res for easy filling.

So excited

If you check out my older build log (in the OP) I used to have a Crosshair V, which while it was an excellent board with some great features ended up dying and the RMA for it was a total nightmare. So I started looking elsewhere, and despite its ugly bullet heatsink I have really fallen in love with the Big Bang XPower II

So this has changed a lot since it started. I picked up triple 1080p 22" LG IPS panels - need to mod my desk to use all three, but the two I'm using are beautiful. HOWEVER. Neither of my cards will run all three (I can technically do it on the 2Win, but the 1GB VRAM will destroy my framerates). So I'm selling both the GPUs and just bought a GTX 670 4GB.

That's all for now folks. Hoping to get the motherboard in a few weeks and then actually get some stuff done.
