Help with a great looking HTPC case.

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I am building my first HTPC, and for this i am looking for a cool looking HTPC case. I will decide on the components later, for now i am looking for an HTPC case, that looks cool on my A/V cabinet. Looking for a case, that looks classy has a LCD panel in the front. something like the LUXA2 LVA20052N1Z. Is there something better looking or with better functions? Not too expensive either.. biggrin.gif
Will be building the htpc in about a month.. but need to start with getting the case first.

Take a look at OrigenAE HTPC cases and the Wesena HTPC-e7T
These are the expensive end though

Or maybe Antec Fusion Remote, this is cheaper than the others

I agree with trog on this one. If you are looking at a $600 case (which is how much some people budget an entire htpc build around sometimes ) So its probably more important to figure out what you want inside the thing first and then figure out what its going to be a part of second

I agree with that one too. I dont have a lot of restraints on budget, but it does not mean i want to spend foolishly. Anything that makes sense out of an HTPC i dont mind adding/spending.
Currently, this is what i am aiming for in my HTPC.

Requirements

Case should have more HDD Bays for storage (5-6 works, anything more.. is wonderful)
Hi-def audio-video (first priority)
No studder in audio or video any formats
Good looks, as i would like to place this in my AV cabinet.
7.1 channel surround sound compatible
Cable DVR Recording compatible (shud be able to record dish network programs on HDD).
Integration with a good AVR like Denon 4311CI
Silent, as i guess a silent htpc is good for audio/video processing.
Integration with an external rack storage bays.
Best possible cooling for an HTPC under ideal htpc cooling guidelines.

I just want an ideal HTPC, yes powerful, i think i will go for an i5 sandy bridge although its an overkill *i know* but adding few more dollars for an i5 wont kill my pizza party. biggrin.gif

I love the Origen S21T case, i guess i dont even mind pulling 1200 dollars for this one, but this is my thinking.. the cost on this case is high just cos of the 12" screen.. and i guess you cannot keep the screen turned on for a very long time... or everyday for 5-6 hrs.
I would love to show off a psychedelic or a digitized screensaver or a falling matrix in that lcd screen of the case sitting in my A/V cabinet, when the projector/LCD is turned off. But, if that LCD on that htpc goes bad, the entire case would look like an ugly black box. Any idea on the shelf life of this lcd screen on the S21T case... warranty etc?

Again guys, i am sure that these days an HTPC can do much more, and in my points above i have missed out a lot, if you can add few more points that goes with an ideal htpc, it be great. Please feel free to add more suggestions and your recommendations on parts.

For 5-6+ hdd storage, you're probably looking at a mid tower case.. So therefore the whole "requires 5-6+ hdds along with looking nice in an av cabinet" is going to clash.. If you're looking for that much storage, might I suggest building yourself a server? It sounds like money isn't too much of an object for you and it would make life a LOT easier down the road if you decide to build another htpc for the kids room or the bedroom, etc. You could easily build one for a couple hundred new (or a lot less if you have a spare pc laying around), find an antec 900 or something and fill each bay with a 4 HDD adapter giving you a possible total of 12 hdds. Otherwise if you don't get any adapters it can still fit 6 hdds without needing to purchase anything extra. Set that up with Windows Home Server and you're set! Then have your htpc pull your movies straight from there and you're golden! Now you're not limited to an HTPC case that is going to be massive. thumb.gif
