New build for GF, will PSU be enough?

Thread Starter
Ok so my gf's starting to get into PC gaming now and is proper bummed out she cant play Skyrim or Borderlands 2 when it comes out.
Atm she plays Aion but has to turn everything to low and she gets about 11fps, maybe as low as 3fps in Panda (city).
I admire her enthusiasm to keep playing but, i want to build her a PC, what do you guys think of this..

CPU: AMD FX4100 OC to 4.5ghz (i know, i know, its bulldozer, but moneys tight and its good enough so no flaming)
Mobo: Asrock Extreme 3 970
RAM: Corsair XMS 3 Twin X 4GB (2X2gb)
GFX: Sapphire 68501gb
HDD: 2x 7200rpm 120gb Drives (just spares i have laying around)
Optical: 22X DVD Re-Writer
Case: Cheap Couger ATX Case
Cooler: Artic Freezer Pro 13

Just a little step up from her Sattelite L300 Laptop =P

Question is, will this 500w Gaming PSU be good enough?

http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/components/powersupplies/nov-psg500.html

I imagine it would be but one thing ive never been certain on with building PC's is the PSU, i mean i know a good one from a bad one by brand but this one is the shops own brand, they make decent hardware, and the 6850 is a low PSU intensive card, im just not that good with rails n stuff.

Thanks peeps, cant wait to make this tomorrow for her whilst shes at college without her knowing >=p

Although the 6850 is not much of a power hungry card, I still would recommend a better PSU, preferably from reputed brands like Corsair. Since you would be overclocking the CPU, a good 500~650W unit is recommended. A PSU is something you shouldn't skimp on, so get a better one.

You would be better off getting something like the corsair CX500, they're cheap but good quality from a reputable brand, they get highly recommended by Custom PC

Would an APU fit this build better? just a thought to consider. The gpu on it is not terrible but it should run skyrim and BL2 just fine. You said money is tight so this could be a way to save some.

A6-3670K

ASRock A55

If you have a specific budget that would be great to know so I can throw something else together without an APU if you would like.

Yeah this is better, built on the Seasonic S12II unit. I'm using one and it's great!

the 6850 uses about 120-130 watts at stock, if you left 150- 250 or so watts for the cpu you could bottom out at quality ~400 watts psu so a 500 watts psu should be fine smile.gif
