[Dvice] 230% efficient LEDs seem to violate first law of thermodynamics - Page 8

Seems like there should be a way to put this out in the heat to make electricity... But solar panels are only at like 14% or something. Be awesome to line the insides of cases with sheets of them though. A cool glow that cools your case biggrin.gif

Maybe enough of this and graphite would mean a completely fanless, low power, low heat computer.... Won't even know it's on if you have an SSD.

I have not looked at the paper itself yet (If I can remember to do that will do later at work as I dont have full access to that journal from home) but based on the graph on physics.org its unlikely to be useful in that particular way. They need ~135 degrees for getting a bit above unity efficiency plus the power of the device is very very low as they basically rely on heat for generating these excess photons.

If you heat something up high enough I bet you can make it glow even without applying the voltage tongue.gif

Interesting result nevertheless.

Perhaps if you're suggesting using photoelectric panels instead of plastic for fan blades... That would certainly be interesting although it wouldn't be transparent and therefore would be more of a strobe light effect than the typical glowing effect found in most led fans.

At any rate that would only work if the light was able to be focused so that almost all of it fell on the panels AND we somehow got panels which were at least 80% efficient to begin with... and then you would have to worry about abrasion of the photoelectric panels due to them being in constant high velocity motion...

This is all of course under the assumption that these LEDs can be scaled up or mass produced in a dense enough array that feeding it 10 watts or so of energy would actually be feasible.

wouldnt this mean if it keeps sucking warmth that if we use this product much we can counter global warming biggrin.gif?

but the earth is now getting colder which means we will get it even more cold.

No. The energy you put into this thing still has to come from somewhere.
