Only 3 partitions?

I was trying to set up my drive like this all as partitions:

Windows 7
Red Hat
Data Storage

and instead it came out looking like this:

Windows 7 System, Partition
Windows 7, Partition
Red Hat, Partition
Data Storage, LOGICAL DRIVE

Why is the last partition I attempt to make automatically being created as a logical drive? I haven't even made any extended partitions. IIRC, I though logical drives were within an extended partition?

nope, Logical Drives are fake partitions basically..

I mean it is still a partition but,

its not really allocated in the same spot.

usually they install OEM info in logical drives.

I'm beginning to regret getting a 64GB SSD anyways...Windows is absolutely ridiculous. I gave it a 30GB partition and while installing patches, and I'm not sure how or why, 8GB worth of used space showed up in my reserved Red Hat partition. Not to mention there is a little over 8GB left on the Windows partition.
Why?

why would you do that? XD

SSD's are supposed to be dedicated to one OS only, the rest of the space is for key programs.

My windows install takes up with programs over 30GB lol

note SSD's should be one of your best investments period xD

Windows is a bit naff at setting up partitions - maybe this could help you set up 4X primary partitions?

It needs at least 30GB with SP1?

I think I'm going to take your advice and just scrap Windows and use Red Hat on the netbook. :/

How much RAM do you have? Did you reduce your pagefile size? Did you disable system restore?

Also try running disk cleanup, you can clear out the pre-SP1 files that are no longer needed.

I had Windows 7 running on a 30 GB OCZ Vertex 1, so I know there are some optimizations you can do.. look for Sean's guide in the SSD section here on OCN
