I hate to burst your bubble, but a laptop with an 18" screen won't have that much smaller of a footprint than a desktop computer.

Yeah I also agree with these guys. $4600 is just too much for anyone to recommend spending on a gaming laptop. And, with those specs, that laptop has got to be over 20lbs. You might as well spend $2,000 on a desktop with better specs and get a $1,000 portable laptop for around base. You'd still be almost $2000 less than just that laptop.
I don't want to tell you what to do, I just don't think you'll get a lot of people here who recommend spending that much on a laptop. Especially not Alienware...

seriously just build a matx rig and stick the monitor on top of it. Same footprint as the laptop, but half the price, half the noise, double the cooling, a proper keyboard and monitor, the ability to upgrade it later rather than have to toss it out and buy a whole new one, overclocking ... yeah.

Even without recommending a laptop, what do you need that much juice for? People are spending less than 25% or around $1400.00 and are getting Gaming laptops which play everything at or very near max. Check out the You tube videos. Even if you do not go with a desktop, get a external monitor on a loaded 15.6" and you can play everything at or close to max depending on configuration. Plus, if your overseas, and if something happens to that alienware or anything, you will be out almost 5 grand.... which is going to hurt....
I recently purchased a gaming laptop for under 1400.00 and I am able to play most games at max settings, or very close... I am at 1900x1220 for settings and everything looks incredible.. for online games I am getting close to 60fps and my latency is in the teens to the low 20's.... is just me, but dual GPU for a 18" lacd monitor or whatever you want to call it is just way too much overkill for the scren and the footprint you will have.
out there in the desert areas that kind of machine will take too much abuse, better to get a machine a lot cheaper while there, then if the need is still thereonce you return, then go for it...

I recently purchased a gaming laptop for under 1400.00 and I am able to play most games at max settings, or very close... I am at 1900x1220 for settings and everything looks incredible.. for online games I am getting close to 60fps and my latency is in the teens to the low 20's.... is just me, but dual GPU for a 18" lacd monitor or whatever you want to call it is just way too much overkill for the scren and the footprint you will have.
