Hgher resolution vs higher quality graphics? - Page 2

Well, if I'm not mistaken, the new iPad(no "iPad 3" surprisingly), has a GPU 2x more powerful than NVIDIA's Tegra 3 chip(and the most powerful GPU that can be found in any phone/tablet on the market today). Knowing developers and the wonders of Apple technology, I'm sure w/e games are available/will be available for the new iPad that are played at native resolution will run just fine since I'm sure they'll be optimized quite well... and well, just the fact that they're still tablet games, and not full-fledged console/PC titles. Just my two cents. I'll take the higher resolution since tablet gaming is a joke, and I'd be using the iPad for schoolwork(e-textbooks, research, Keynotes, etc.). I'll actually be able to play around with the new iPad in exactly a week from now since my older brother pre-ordered one for his 17th birthday! biggrin.gif. It'll be his new obsession and most prized possession(just like when he got his 4S rolleyes.gif)

Like others have said, gaming is not the main purpose of a tablet, and I don't know a single soul in the world who would want such a powerful tablet. Then, battery life would be reduced to just 2-3 hours, maybe even less. frown.gif

Lol, you just said a Ipad has a gpu TWICE as powerful as the Tegra 3, which is the MOST powerful one the market. And I'm sure the tegra 3 is a quad core too

I'm just getting this from what Apple is saying. "Up to four times the performance of NVIDIA's recently released Tegra 3" tongue.gif. As far as in what, I don't know, but think about it. For a tablet with a 2048x1536 display, I'm pretty certain Apple wouldn't be idiotic enough to put in a GPU that's only capable of just displaying everything xD. During their special event for the iPad, they even demo'ed a few demanding games. biggrin.gif. Maybe it's time for NVIDIA to step it up again in the tablet world. The new iPad is now just simply the best tablet in the world until better tablets are made. And considering Android is nowhere on par with iOS and the software available for it... hmm x]. (The last bit is of course highly biased) tongue.gif. Oh well, guess I''ll just have to see on the 16th.

Apple also said the Ipad would be useful for all sorts of things. The only thing I've found useful of it is that is makes a good paper weight.

Well, this is coming from a teen's/student's point of view, so obviously I have different needs/wants. But to each his own biggrin.gif

Yea, there is that. Also, my biggest needs are 1: Gasoline for my KLX300... 2: Diesel for my Nissan Terrano 4x4
God I love being in the middle of no-where.

[Edit] Added the word "gaming" for clarification.
High resolution or low quality graphics?
Why not both?

Games like Infinity Blade: Dungeons runs at full resolution. That means every game can run at that resolution.

The iPad 2 is already ~30% faster than the Tegra 3 in most scenarios. Doubling the iPad 2's power puts it far out in front in GPU performance.

Obviously not a ton of book readers on ocn. Higher resolution is to make text from books, websites and magazines look really pretty and easy on the eye's. Not for tablet gaming, which as mentioned above, is a joke.

Real Racing 2 already supports 1080p at 30 FPS with only an SGX543MP2... it'll do fine at 1536p with another two of them. As will most games.

The PowerVR SGX 543MP2 is about 30% more powerful in shader bound environments than the Tegra 3's GPU, and about twice as powerful in texture bound environments. Adding another two of them will shoot that up to 2.5x, and four times as powerful in texture bound environments. At least in the synthetics...

It'll do quite well in games though.
