As we all know, the game really goes into weirdo mode and stops making sense after Harbinger jacks you up while you're running for the relay.
What if... We didn't actually see the ending. Think about this, because it does actually seem plausible.
You get hit with the beam and are knocked unconscious. Everything after that is taking place in your mind. Possibly an attempt at indoctrination by Harbinger? It seems possible, with the appearance of the boy that has been haunting your dreams. It's said that attempts to indoctrinate Shepard fail, for whatever the reason. Perhaps Harbinger is trying to lead you into it unknowingly? You are offered the choice to join the reapers or merge organic and synthetic life. You join/control the reapers, you've given in. You choose to merge... What are the reapers? A merger of organic and synthetic life. As EDI describes them, an organic construct. This option also results in you giving in to the reapers.
However, if you had enough points and destroyed the reapers. Everything ends with one final scene. The shot of the armor suddenly taking a deep breath. If you chose to destroy the reapers, you refused to give in TO the reapers, thus refusing indoctrination. The breath you see Shepard draw is not a breath drawn on the Citadel after the decision... It's the breath you draw back on Earth. Now it's time to possibly face Harbinger and defeat the Reapers for real?
It's kind of a stretch, but it sounds like it could certainly be possible. It sounds right down EA's alley too, with the need for another $10 DLC to see the ACTUAL ending to the series.
Not saying I believe it, just saying that thought is floating around out there.

I think your just reading too much into it. I doubt EA/Bioware put that much effort into the story for it to be this deep.

I have been firmly on Biowares side during most of the nerdrage that has taken place but I would go postal if they tried to sell me different endings. Maybe sell me some dlc for what takes place after, but not to change the story.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
the catalyst says that the merger of synthetic and organic would create a new dna. As it stands the reapers are a combination of the two but not a full intergration.

And I don't like the idea of good sheppard being indoctrinated. I like his self sacrifice for the greater goo of all life. That is my sheppard but I don't think its THE sheppard. Just like in ME 2, I think sheppard when not ported over resorts to evil sheppard, so for future dlc or games, they'll have him break the glass and kill all synths. This is backed by the fact that if good sheppard can't talk the ilusive man down, then you either do an 'evil' move and shoot him before he shoots you and Anderson. You either left click for the evil move to kill illusive man or you die and restart from the beginning of the conversation.

I think this is why wee not treated with a laundry list of what happened to each race and main cast b/c its not over

I'm just posting what's posted all over the bioware forums and other places. It's literally everywhere.

Forcing a merger of organic and synthetic life may SEEM like a paragon choice, but think about it. You've completely removed all free will from the galaxy to decide whether it WANTS the merger. It's made clear throughout the entire series that good Shepard supports the right of all people to choose for themselves. It shows destroying the reapers as the 'red' choice, or renegade choice. This all seems very backwards.

Also, here's the real kicker. The star child tells you that if you destroy the reapers, you destroy all synthetic life. That includes EDI, the geth, the reapers, and he also mentions you, since your resurrection required many synthetic components. It's basically suggested that you'd die, too. Yet, amazingly, this is the ONLY choice where you're shown to survive the ending. Weird, yea?

Too many things are off at the end. As I stated in the other thread, think about the last parts. I clearly see Anderson get wasted by Harbinger's beam. Yet amazingly he's on the Citadel. The squad mates that were with me are suddenly on the Normandy after it crashes. When you come to, the gun you hold is none of the ones I had in my inventory, it's got infinite ammo, and it kills everything with one shot. Huh?

Finally, at the end, if you chose the destroy ending and had over 5000 points, you see Shepard take a sudden breath while lying amongst concrete rubble. This looks more like the rubble that was on the streets of London, not the Citadel. Not only that, but when you choose to destroy, the Citadel makes a nice big boom. Realistically, Shepard's body would have been obliterated.

Just too many inconsistencies and backwardness. I don't know. It just throws me off.

Dont worry these inconsistencies are biowares way of saying how much they care.

There are some issues with what you're saying.
1. The catalyst doesn't say that sheppard will die if he kills all synthetics, he simply mentions that sheppard is part synthetic too.

2. The catalyst actually says that sheppard WILL live if he chooses the option and he explicitly says he will die with the other two

3. You're shown among the rubble because youe beamed back down after you make your choice

4. IIRC, you have the generic pistol b/c that's what he picks up off the ground

5. They did mess up with the squadmates but I just assumed they forgot to have sheppard tell them to get back to the ship or something like that.

6. People have been complaining about the generic armor but id imagine its because there are like 10,000 armor variations and it would be a waste of time making a broken armor model for each piece.

The sheer amount of information about ME3 (i.e. spoilers) flowing around the internet is overwhelming. At this point if you are afraid of spoilers you should be avoiding ALL threads with Mass Effect in the title, just finish the damn game and then come around to these articles smile.gif
