[Electronista] Kepler Fast Enough To Replace 3 X GTX 580s!!! - Page 15

I believe this partially, but if this is true the performance increase of the gtx 680 over the 7970 will be much greater than 30-35% higher.

Except, 1 fermi CUDA core > 1 Kepler CUDA core.
And as mentioned above, it is rather unlikely that "It could be the fact that Kepler cards utilize PCI 3.0 technology more than Radeon cards.". They're not close to saturating the bandwidth iirc. Haven't bothered to check for a while, but the last time I did, even PCI-E 2.0 isn't a bottleneck ... yet

Hey guys, what's a realistic latest release date? I'm not sure whether to get a 5xx card now or wait until kepler, I have a 3d monitor and glasses already but I don't know how long the wait is going to be :/.

Thats pretty doubtful. No offense but the guy who said that lacks even the simplest marketing strategy knowledge . They are not only challenging AMD but themselves by doing so . Because If they do that people will always think the newer generations above Kepler should be 300% faster than their older counterparts. And if Nvidia fails to do that it will end up affecting the reputation of the company. Just like how AMD over-hyped Bulldozer and then failed. Not to mention the cost of the card which may cost $1000+.
So I guess like every generation the GTX 680 should be between 25-55% faster than GTX 580.

Read the article before commenting.

Until it's reported by nVidia themselves, or someone has the card in there hands and is willing to break NDA, this is all heresay. You can't compare the scaling on Tri-SLI with an unoptimized filter to a single card with FXAA, and then say "one is as fast as three!!".

It's speculation, nothing more. Comprehend before commenting.

I wouldnt trust Nvidia (or any other hardware manufacturer) if they did... its the marketing team that handles something like that, not the engineers.

And we all know how well that disconnect between enigneering (reality) and marketing (fantasy land) worked out for the BD release. I'm not comparing Kepler to BD, but real performance numbers will be so nice to see.

Im pretty sure its not a performance thing, I am sure it was an optimization thing. That tech demo can EASILY be run on a gtx560 if it was optimized.

Buddy, you might have wanted to do a quick google before saying that smile.gif (also posted on nVidia's facebook page)

Same article on Geforce.com

Of course it was an optimisation thing, I've been saying that throughout the thread. But it isn't a rumour. They're reporting what happened, it's just cleverly written.
