I've decided on the CPU, now for the motherboard

The Intel Pentium D 805 2.66 GHz is the processor my OC prjoect will revolve around. I need help choosing the mobo. I've been using THG's Your DIY 4 GHz Dual Core Gaming Rig For $720, but this was written 4 years ago. As far as price goes it doesn't matter, but I'd prefer the best price to performance ratio.

You might wanna consider going with a Conroe Ready board so that if you decide to upgrade 6 months from now for huge performance gains you can do so without incident
my suggestions:
Asus P5B or P5B Deluxe
Gigabyte DS3 or DQ6
The Deluxe and DQ6 are higer end boards, and are more expensive than the DS3 and The P5B, My recomendation would be the P5B Deluxe.

Edit: You may have to change your power supply at that time also (Especially if it's no name like the one in the Guide)... but that depends on what you choose now. It's never a poor choice to plan ahead with future proof technology.

Finally i will add that you can get much better deals for better parts than listed on there. for example the RAM and the GFX especially.

My suggestions really would be not to folow a guide thats that old, and instead to do an little reading and ask for some advice and ppl here can guide you to building exactly what you want with your budget.
Let us know if that helps!

I'm not following that guide verbatim, and I'm aware of the differences in prices. Basically the only thing I'm following are the components, but still very loosely. Example, instead of the GFX card G7600GT (listed at 229.99) I'm going to purchase the R1900GT which was listed as best PCI-E card ~$200 at Tom's Harware Guide forums. I haven't bought any parts, because I want to be sure of what I'm going to get.

One more thing, the memory I plan to get, DDR2-667 1GB (512*2), what kind of things should I look for when purchasing? Also should I get a faster speed?

That's a great setup right there, and it's Conroe ready and DX10 ready which is huge for saving you money down the road
That system should allow you to play msot games on high settings (some on max) and you can always upgrade your proc and GFX when you run into some money!
Thumper threw out a nice lineup there, i really like the choice of RAM, that will help your overclock and not hold you back with future upgrades.

FUTURE PROOFING FTW!

Thumper's rig is great, but where's the hard drive or optical? Prepare another $100

Good point, could drop the CPU to a 920 and cut down to 1GB of RAM and come in close to that still if he doesn't have a HD and optical already.......
