Yes, but get a used 6950 instead and unlock it to a 6970. GTX 480's draw a ton of power and get extremely hot on air, to the point where they are unusable in some scenarios. My 6970 with the reference cooler never goes above 70 degrees even under full load while overclocked.
See posts like this, blow the 480 out of proportion.
Yes it takes a bit more power. 12-15ish watts more than the 580. And my 480 with the stock cooler never went above 77C gaming with the standard fan profile.
The card is a beast and it's fine. As long as it gets air its fine.
