^This.

I ran 3DMark11 with my gtx 580 before I sold it, because I knew I would be replacing it with the 480, and was curious myself. With the 580 at 797 (EVGA SC), I got P6363 with my 860 @ 4.0 ghz.

I just ran it again with my 480 @ 825Mhz and got p6410, I ran it again @ 800mhz and got P6331. I know 3DMark11 isn't the end-all be all judge of how fast a card is, but it makes for an easy comparison. I would say anywhere in between 800-825Mhz on the core, and you're pretty on par with a stock gtx 580.

Not exactly a fair comparison: but here are my 480s running Vantage  at 850Mhz (i7 920 HT on)

Same CPU clocks, 580 SLI running 900Mhz

you could go tri-sli for about as much as a 680, although then you would have to buy 3 waterblocks.

I ran a Unigene benchmark, 30.7 FPS with GTX 570, 30.0 FPS with GTX 480 and 60.3 FPS with SLI. Talk about scaling well! But my god these suckers run HOT! Dear god. My GTX 570 was silent and cool, these are loud and hot, and raising my room temperature lol.
What was I thinking getting not one, but two of these, while living in Texas.

Looks better for sure. What about the temps. Any different?

Little cooler since I have dual fans hitting it with a high speed fan front intake throwing all the air to the fan on the PCB.
Idle temps: 47-55 degrees
Load temps: 60-67 degrees
7 fans blasting 100%

I must have gotten a crappy chip... my card runs like a frickin furnace. 70-80 in games and mid 90's in furmark. I couldn't imagine these things in SLI.

Have you turned up the fan speed on the card?
