Too confusing. Can you help me understand more about RAM ?

Hey fellas,

Firstly my rig is in the sig. I want to change my rams due to they are being 4x 2GB 1.65V sticks(even though they are good 1600mhz C8), but 4 dimms is a bit problemic in OverClocking as you know, too much heat thanks to IMC. And, i want to get the rams i'll use when i upgrade to a 3770k or 3570k Z77 system. Since ram is cheap, i thought why not buy them now and use them right now, right ?

Anyways, the part that confuses me;

G.Skill Rams i can find in my country;

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231546

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231416

Corsair Rams i can find in my country:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233180

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233186

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233202

Question is, each of these rams in it's own brand, they are all 1600Mhz 1.5V CL9 rams right ? But what are the differences ? Besides few bucks in price...

PS: Since it is going to be a gaming rig i don't plan on overclocking the rams, but i'd like them to work 1600mhz CL8 @ 1.5V if possible.

PS #2: With only about ~20$ price difference should i get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233184 ? What do you guys think ?

PS #3: Don't suggest me to get Samsung or Crucial rams because i can't find them anywhere here frown.gif

PS #4: I use 200bclk in my rig atm so that rams can work at their rated clock speeds and voltage. Since Z77 platform will let me OC @ 100bclk, the situation will be the same i suppose, right ?

Please help me understand the differences in these rams and which one should i get AND WHY ?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the wall of text...

All the RAM you linked perform the same and I have a preference towards G.Skill and low profile heat spreaders.

I don't know if the RAM can or can't...you will really not notice lol.

You probably won't notice a difference, but still is faster.

You RAM speed will not be affected my your CPU O.C.

Nobody can guarantee the corsair chips OCing as they all have different memory chips, although they are high quality. The more recent ones, like mine (I've upgraded to a samsung kit though), don't oc timings to well. I personally got 8-9-8-24 1.5 volts stock 1670mhz, this is a vengeance 4gbx4 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 kit.

G-skill are a similar boat...and I have no personal experience with them. Secondly I doubt you're getting heat issues from ram, but ocability will definitely be improved by having 2x4gb dimms opposed to 4x2gb dims. I'd say get what's cheaper (you won't notice a difference if you got either kits/companies, none are supreme ocers, and get the lowest profile one you can find, due to you having a big-ass heatsink (and me being clueless about memory clearance on your silverarrow).

Get lowest-profile/cheaper one. Obviously prices vary in your country compared to Newegg and wherever you live.

Also computer prices here are ridiculous, 6950's just got released here and are worth $320 atm...I'm glad I setup an amazon account and an international PO box.

First of all thanks for your input.

Secondly, i don't own a Silverarrow, idk where did you get the idea, i've EK HF and a full Watercooling loop tongue.gifbiggrin.gif

Ram-wise i thought the same they all being similar, but i just wanted to know why a company like G.Skill have three(3) different series of the same spec ram. Ripjaws X, Ares, Sniper, all 1600mhz CL9 1.5V rams but different names and different pricing(3-5$ difference on each). Corsair, i started NOT to like them anymore so i think i'll take the G.Skill route.

Thirdly, it isn't the problem of shipping, it is the customs policies in our country. The items you buy may stuck in the customs. Sometimes for a small fee, most of the time an immense fee you can get your item, and sometimes you can't get it out from the customs at all. That's not worth the hassle i think.

AHAHAHAHAHA I looked at shauns rig and mistook it as yours...1 am posts...WATERCOOLING:drool:

Edit: Customs here is decent but they take a hefty tax. I mark items as gifts via amazon, no tax...anyway...

I've done some research, the g-skill modules are the same. Just a different design on the plastic, (different aesthetics to match) and more ram to fit in with their series. Ram doesn't get hot anyways so a heatspredder which is large is useless....

Although imo the sniper looks much better than the other ones, but I've never seen it in person and it depends on your rig...

Edit: I've found a couple of threads on OCN and google about the skill ram. These can have their cas brought down to 8 by pretty much everyove with no extra voltage (doesn't really make much difference to timings), and their frequencies can go up slightly, but they wont be stable around or past ~2000mhz (even if you're lucky or jack up the voltage unless you can loosen timings to a 10-10-10-30 1.6v)...
