If I'm going to get faster I'll have to squeeze more out of that Gallatin. Artikbot, to mod your PWM driver for your board did you have to disassemble and recode part of your BIOS? Do you know any good guides on how to do it?

No, it's much easier than that. You just add a voltage divider to the feedback pin on the PWM driver so you make it believe that the voltage is lower than it actually is, effectively making it rise the output voltage to compensate that 'deficit' in the feedback pin.

I think some guy had a guide on my board. Oh yeah, here it is smile.gif

Also, just curious, didn't Danger Den go out of business?

Yup smile.gif

But some shops here in Spain still sell their old waterblocks, dirt cheap.

I'm going with the TDX I think. Sadly the bench will have to wait, I need to RMA my AIO's motherboard, and buy a new one... frown.gif

About the CPU scores, what benchmarks are you running? With the old cards (Radeon 7,9xxx; GF5xxx and previous) the Pentium 4 is already overkill, and the bottleneck is the GPU.

Hell, I didn't notice any benefit from a 2.13GHz E6420 to a 3.73GHz E5200, not even on the GF6200.

I'm on the board, baby! biggrin.gif

http://hwbot.org/submission/2334970_mrbreeze_3dmark06_radeon_hd_4670_agp_5005_marks

It's not much, but it's a start. 5005 in 3DMark06, good for 1.8 gigantic hardware team power points for OCN.

Plan is first to max out the 4670 on air w/ the Gallatin. Going to add those RAM heatsinks, lap the IceQ cooler w/ new TIM to try and bring the temps down.

Then I'll bust out the 7500 in the same rig, maybe pick up an old GeForce AGP to cut my teeth on nVidia.

Longer term?

TEC/H2O...

...and maybe the Wolfie Slayer?devil-smiley-019.gif

Nice! Those boards will work as well for AGP benching, if you do find a Asrock 4coreDual make sure its Revision 2.0. The other revision isn't near as good.

Also if you want to find some cheap AGP cards, look at your local electronics recycling depot, they have bins full of them. The one I use all the time has them $2.00 a card. Tons of fun for $2, can't go wrong.

I'm hoping I can score a couple of them for free, even. The place where I work has an IT graveyard that gets replenished with new corpses every few weeks. Several of the parts for my AGP Frankenrig were rescued from there, although I haven't come up with any video cards yet, but plenty of RAM, drives, CPUs. I'll have to try the local recycling depot, too, that's a good tip.

Okay, back with more benches:

http://hwbot.org/submission/2337064_
http://hwbot.org/submission/2337069_

And, because the 4670's clocks do make a difference to the total score, and because I gotta brag a leeetle beeet about my first golden cup: graduated.gif

http://hwbot.org/submission/2336700_

That being said, the PCMark05 record was low hanging fruit. Now if I could just get PCMark04 to load...

I've been benching the s**t out of the Gallatin and it's done everything it can on air and stock voltage: 239 MHz boot, 238 MHz for UCBench and wPrime 32M, 233 MHz for everything else. If you're curious, you can see the submissions here:

http://hwbot.org/hardware/processor/pentium_4_3.2_ghz_ee/

Given that I'm just barely breaking 3.8 GHz and can't run extended benchmarks over 3.73, I'm starting to think very seriously about going 775 soon. Even if I cooled it way down it'd still be holding me back.

Now for the 4670, I still need to get on the board with 3DM05 and Aquamark, and I think I can do better in 03. That 2001SE score is not going anywhere with the current CPU, though. Then I'll improve the thermals and see what kind of bump I get.

Overall, 13.6 more team power points for OCN. Not bad for a week's work. It's going to get harder to cherry-pick from here on out, though.

Looks pretty good, you should find an older card, that Gallatin will work just fine for a Geforce 2 or 3 or an old Radeon 7000 or something. I found another Asrock 4Coredual, my original freezes on start up and forces every chip to 1.2Ghz, but only a version 1.02. Beggars can't be choosers though, hope to get back into it after HWBOT Country Cup wraps up.

Yeah, I definitely need to drop in some older cards. I only have the one AGP board, though, so I figure I'll bottom feed for as many points as I can with the current setup, rolleyes.gif and then give the P4 something a little more symmetric to play with.

Psyched you found a 4CoreDual though, it was getting pretty lonely out here in the AGP hinterlands. What challenges are you working on for Country Cup?

The 775 stage, I have a lot of those chips so I'm trying to stay out of my country mates way and let them post what they have and work around it. Also got to do something with AMD chip, might have an AM2+ to try out, got to be better than my HTPC FM1 chip at stock. LOL
