How do I Overclock my AMD FX-6100 Six-Core Processor? - Page 2

The HP board is probably not designed for much more than stock speed operation (i.e. VRM quality), you should check before proceeding.

You cant triple post a double post! Anyways look. Give me the model number of your HP computer and I will look up the specs for you and see if the particular motherboard that is in it can have its bios flashed to its sister counterpart (consumer motherboard you purchase individually) I had an HP computer before where the mobo had one digit difference in the part number and I flashed its bios with the non-oem bios and was able to overclock from 3.0ghz to 3.7ghz without a problem and this was a Pentium D! It is really not recommended because OEM's do not put the most sturdy equipment into their pc's therefore it will be taking a risk of frying your board. But after my warnings and others and you are still willing to take the plunge Ill be glad to help. Just remember I nor anyone here on OCN is liable for anything that you may do. All electronics come with smoke built into them and if you do something wrong you will let that smoke out and no more workie… Get it? Got it? Now which is it the red or blue pill?

Did u guys notice the dumb and dumber reference and the matrix reference? Yup Im that good.

Im not telling OP to do it but like I said, I had my Pentium D to 3.7/3.8ghz for about 1.5 years with zero issues. The stock cooler was a beast actually and it really was worth it IMO. But being said that, not everyone is going to be so lucky. Especially with a heat loving 6100. (I own an 8120)

The thing I find strange about this is a FX cpu in an HP? When did HP start using am3+ boards?
He's on a Gigabyte M3970AM-HP with what appears to be 4+1 phase vrm, as to the quality i'd guess low. I'm sure however it could handle a small oc with no voltage increase...

Thread Starter
I have the new HP Pavilion HPE series with an FX-6100 Six-Core Processor. I bought it about 1 month ago. I went to Best buy and said I wanted the fastest computer they have and this is what they gave me. It's stock 3.33 GHz. I'm happy with the speed but, I want to learn how to overclock. I was hoping it was possible with this one but, it doesn't seem to be due to the locked BIOS. I just started college as an IT professional and would love to have the knowledge under my belt for future reference. Can anyone suggest a machine that is between $1500-$2000 that I will be-able to customize and overclock? Something with a processor that is around the same speed as mine so I don't have to boost it much would be nice. One more question I have is why do you suppose HP is famous for over heating? I have a feeling I'm just going to need to build my own piece by piece. My gallery has uploads of my specs by the way. It's as I mentioned, an HP Pavilion HPE series with an AMD FX-6100 Six-Core Processor, 10GB DDR3 system memory, Radeon HD 7450 graphics card with 1 GB DDR3 dedicated memory, 1.5 terabyte hard drive, Beats audio, SuperMulti DVD burner and Windows 7 Ultimate
