External Enclosure question...

Thread Starter
I can't figure this one out; I keep confusing myself, then starting over, picking one, thinking about it again, then confusing myself again, and repeat. Which would be better.
  • Ethernet enclosure (100MB/s) + IDE HDD (133mb/s)
  • Firewire (800mb/s) + SATA 3gb/s HDD (300mb/s)

I would think the ethernet one would be faster by the connection type, but the HDD can only do 133mb/s....but the Firewire would be 800mb/s, slower than the ethernet at some 100mb/s ( ), but the HDD would be able to do 300mb/s...

Bottlenecking HDD wise confuses me.

There are ethernet + SATA 3gb/s enclosures, but I don't want to spend that much on them. ($150+ )

I would assume the last would be better, since it would be limited by the HDD anyway, but I'm not sure.

Esata are nice and fast and would be better. Howevcer out of the two you selected the Firewire version would yeild faster file transfer.
