Setting up a boot drive and storage drive??

Thread Starter
I want sure how to search for this. I've been seeing a lot of articles and things about using ssd's strictly for the OS and using an HDD for storage.mi am wondering if I could do this type of setup with 2 HDDs or even 1 HDD with proper partitions.

Which setup/would either setup give me better performance?
How would I go about setting this up without losing data?
Obviously the ssd is the better option but I cannot afford an sad at the moment.

Thanks!!

You're unlikely to see much of a performance increase simply by using multiple hard drives without setting them up in a RAID, and I really don't recommend that. It's a PITA and causes more trouble than it's worth IMO.

If you want good performance from HDD's, you just need to get a good HDD like a WD Caviar Black or even a Velociraptor if you can afford it, but if you can, you could afford an SSD too. I've been seeing SSD's around $1 per GB on sale at Newegg lately, so they're definitely becoming more affordable.

I would highly recommend you shoot for a 64GB SSD which can be had for about 70 bucks. If you can't afford that, I'd just stick with the one HDD for simplicity's sake.
