ISP: Wide Open West (WOW)
Price: $90. $65/mo when you refer someone, which we have done for the last 4 months!
Speed I pay for: 50/10
Speed I get: 50/10
Experience: Excellent. We had one major issue last week which was on their end. Our speeds were dropping to below 8Mb/s and they could not figure out why. We asked that they drop us down to their lower plan and then initiate the plan back up to the 50/10. This fixed the issue. They couldn't figure out why it happened, but it was the only major problem we have had.

Ha you guys just saved me some money. When I first got my internet, it was only $19.99 a month, then it shot up to $60 a month after the promotional period. Then I came into this thread and realized how much I was paying. Chatted with my ISP and here is my new results:

ISP: Charter Communications
Price: $31.99
Advertised speed: 15/3
Actual speed: 16/2-3 variable depending on day
Experience: Excellent. The only few times that the net went out are either due to bad storm or sometime after 11pm, during which I should be sleeping anyway due to work.

I hate my internet so much.....

ISP: Verizon
Price/month: $19.99
Speed you pay for: 1.5 mbps down / 0.5 mbps up
Speed you get: 1.05 mbps down / .37 mbps up (on a good day, sometimes it's .75 & .25)
Connection Type (DSL, Cable, Fiber, Satellite, etc): DSL
Experience with the service: Rude customer support, my internet goes down every 4 - 5 hours, can't make phone calls while online.

If there were another option I'd take it, but this is the fastest I can get. The high-speed lines get the house above me and the one below me, but not mine of course.

ISP AT$T, price pee month $30 speed I pay, for 1.5/0.5 speed I get 1.2/0.3 type of connection DSL happiness not very. Very unstable connection, super slow, really sucks, always make an excuse for why my internet is out. Going to go for Comcast this month, just have to dig a 50ft long trench in my front yard. Wish I could get fiber sooooooo bad.

Do you have the DSL signal filters plugged into your phone lines where your phones are plugged in?

This is the first time ive ever not been actually given what Im provisioned, and its probably because im right in the middle of the service area, and im in an apartment complex that uses exclusively cox.

i think i had a mistaked, it's roger the worse. not the cox.
but still~~ Canadian ISP still the worse in the world. all of them with capped.

ISP: Eastlink
Price/month: $57
Speed you pay for: 20 mbit / 2 mbit / Un-capped
Speed you get: 22 mbit / 2.4 mbit / Un-capped
Connection Type (DSL, Cable, Fiber, Satellite, etc): Cable
Experience with the service: Absolutely great, no spikes in service, constant speed

Other notes:
We have 2 HD cable boxes, 2 separate cable modems, and 3 TV's with just basic cable, having all devices powered on still get full connection speed.

Not all ISP's are capped, Eastlink for example, who I'm with offers there plans up to 20 mbit uncapped, they start caps at 40 mbit and offer different caps for different prices (AKA extra $5 to double your cap, $10 to triple). Most of the times stuff like that just isn't advertised on the web site and you need to poke around with different people on the phone.

ISP: Shaw Cable
Price/month: $140 internet/TV
Speed you pay for: 50/3
Speed you get: ~55/2.5
Connection Type (DSL, Cable, Fiber, Satellite, etc): Cable
Experience with the service: Customer service is slow but always helpful. The service itself is rather terrible, before I went to the 50mbps plan we had a 25mbps plan on their "old" backend which sucked even harder. Internet drops randomly for random amounts of time 1-5 times a week. On the 25mbps plan it went down every day at 8pm for a half hour. Not sure which is worse, going down every day but knowing when it would happen, or going down once a week but never knowing when.
