What you have to think about is that with a decent overclock you're effectively running 3x GTX 590's in terms of sheer performance.
I've seen a 5.2Ghz 2500k hold back GTX 570 Tri-SLI at 1920x1200 so you can only imagine how much CPU power you need for 3 f these monsters..
Go into CCC and turn anti-aliasing quality to ADAPTIVE and QUALITY.... That will enable transparency super sample anti-aliasing on all the transparent objects and will make the IQ so much better ( Works wonders in Crysis! )
You have the spare power so why not use it....

Where exactly did you see that? I find it VERY hard to believe a 2500k at 5.2 is bottlenecking 3 570s.

I would believe it. I mean there are some titles that can't make use of all of that GPU power at 1200p, so they feed off CPU resources to attempt to do so.

I would agree with him though that 3 OC'd 7970s is like 3 590s, which puts it into perspective for me. I'm going to start building my 3930k rig in the following weeks, or perhaps this week wink.gif

I would order the parts right now, but unfortunately I just ordered a 256GB Crucial M4, and a 27" 1440p LED LCD so I'm kinda going to need to chill for a bit or my other half will prob slap me into next week, lol.

You mean you're having problems believing a CPU that's about 3-4 times as fast as the game's minimum requirement is bottlenecking a graphics setup that's more than 20 times more powerful than the minimum requirement?

Really?

It will choke the CPU with low resolution regardless of CPU clocks. I see bottleneck with 980X @4.8 GHz HT enable, 2x 6990 @1920x1080. The GPUs will never go beyond 50% of utilization with few exception titles such as Metro2033. With Eyefinity, there's immediate boost 90~99% of all GPUs utilized.

Moving to X79 is a good idea with multi GPUs and high resolution to take advantae of the PCIe from CPU. It doesn't have to be 3930K if simply for gaming.

That doesn't make any sense though, that means you think a 2500k at 5.2GHz would bottleneck 2 7970s hardcore?

Clearly I don't understand the term bottleneck then... to me that doesn't seem like a CPU bottleneck, unless you're saying your CPU is pegged at 100% while your GPU is at 50% while playing at 1080p.

Have never seen anything pegged 980X with 12 cores 100% excepts CPU tests. But yeah at low resolution, multi-GPU serves no purpose with most of the titles with few exception such as Metro 2033 that I could remember. But 980X is not a good comparison with topic of discussion here in relation to Multi-GPU utilization.

1080 is way too low of a res to max 3 7970s..

Quick BN comparison, at default cpu the resolution BN is not alleviated until 1600,
At 4.8 the BN is alleviated at 1200p.
