H100 + 2600K inquiry

I have been tossing the idea around of selling my custom CPU loop (ex240, mcp655, raystorm) and going with an H100 because I am getting lazy when it comes to deal with water cooling. I havent tossed the loop back together, so I have just been running with a Zalman in the meantime. Because of this, I havent OCed by CPU back to the 4.6 I had it running at. I was curious what sort of temps I would get with a 4.6-4.8 1.34-1.4V load OC running an H100. I wanted to hear from members that are running the same setup to see if its worth keeping my custom loop.

I decided to go with a H100 for my 2600K setup because I can still achieve my maximum overclock (4.9 @ 1.425v) and stay well within the recommended the max temp. I get around 75c at max load and it's so much less hassle then an entire custom loop. Only way I would go with a custom loop for a 2600K is if I was planning on water cooling the gpu's as well.

I get about 65-73 degrees on an H80, 5.0Ghz 1.43v with Noctua fans, I found that the stock fans on the H80 were much too loud. From what I've read the H100 is a great cooler. Mind you the only side effects of these closed loop coolers is the noise they give off. On quiet mode its silent, balanced mode its fairly audible, but on max... whoo... it gets loud, thats why I bought the Noctua's.

I use my PC primarily for gaming. However, the other thing I use it for when I am not gaming is converting movies to MKV files, so overclocking is nice. That is really the only time its going to be running at load. Is the H100 really loud? I would probably toss a couple medium speed yate loons on it if they perform better. I'd never go over 1.4 volts, and maybe even upgrade to Ivy when it comes out since it should use less heat?

The corsair fans that come with the H100 are loud on max; that makes sense, as they are 2000 RPM fans, IIRC. All other fans (at least to me - I use 1500 RPM gentle typhoons) are fine on medium or max. I like my H100, and it looks fantastic in a windowed case - it really helps get that clean, roomy look. I run about 76-78c load on a 2600k @ 4.8. No complaints. I could probably do even better in a push/pull setup, but I have no problems, so there's no reason to do that.

Just make sure you can properly mount it in your case. You need it up top.

Whats the safe range temp wise for sandy?

Also, how loud is the pump? I don't have a problem with getting quieter fans, but if the pumps a beast, theres not much one can do smile.gif

I suppose my new 550D sound dampening foam would help with that. I guess it's time to put it to the test!

I don't think the pump makes any discernible noise, by the way. At least not over the fans.
