The developers of the Battleheart have decided to stop supporting the Android version of their popular mobile game, citing the platform's unsustainability for game developers. In a post on their official blog, Mika Mobile said that they have spent about 20% of their time working on the Android version of their app last year, mostly fixing issues due to fragmentation, and have received little in return for all their hard work.

I can't remember how many times i heard this, it sounds like it's PS3 for the cell phones, everyone hates to code but still does it?
post #2 of 40

based on some of the apps, they look like they only took a few days to make anyways... and no, this is nothing like coding for the cell processor.

What is funny when people say this it shows that they do not want to try. I say this because the windows OS is just as fragmented as Android is. You can set requirements and versions of android needed to use an app. I think most app developers want to put a month or two of effort into their product and get another angry birds. It just isnt going to happen. That said more people on IOS tend to pay more for apps in general.

Windows OS != Windows Phone.

The Windows Phone is less fragmented that Android because of guidelines and requirements.
Once again...

You're comparing Valve to the this phone application company? Really?

They aren't really guideline, more like stencils. Every phone uses the same processor with the same resolution. Windows Phone can't be fragmented because from a technical standpoint there's only one Windows Phone.

Also, most "fragmentation" issues stem from two things:

1. Developers trying to target <2.2 devices running ARM11 processors. This group is small enough to be completely ignored now.

2. Devices with <1GB of internal storage. This is really kicking Google's butt. They can't increase app size limits because then people will start complaining that they can only store 1 app on their phones.

Problem 1 took care of itself, but Google really needs to address #2. They can continue letting Android run on any device, but limit the market to devices with at least 4/8GB of internal storage, like Windows Phone does. The sooner they do this the sooner the problem will go away.
