I need suggestions on a new pair of Headphones. - Page 2

Thanks for your input guys!

The thing is, most of the headphones suggested are way over my budget and without a microphone. These new headphones I'm after I'll use mostly for gaming with skype/ventrilo voice chat.
They'll also be used for alot of youtubing and music but not so much for movie's.

I've been trying my brothers Creative Sound Blaster Tactic3D Sigma and I'm really liking the sound on those. And I do believe the kind of headphones that'll fit me would be closed ones such as Logitech G35. Which I am also looking in to.

The Superlux HD 681 is $37 here in the USA. The Panasonic RP-HTF600 is $30. I have no idead for gaming but there are some AKG's for less than $100 as well. Is it a lot pricier for you in Sweden? If not, then there's plenty of money left for a soundcard and a mic. I have a friend here with the Creative's and he complains about his mic constantly going out.

I got my AD 700s for under $100 on amazon prolly a year or more ago, and just used a usb table microphone. I stopped using the 700s because I didn't like the feel of the material used for the ear cups or whatever. They sound good, just not full of bass like others have said. I currently use the Denon 5000s and prefer the cup material they use.

Edit: The G35s are nice because you can turn the surround sound on and off, and are also wireless. This was great for going to the kitchen while still using ventrilo via the button on the side. They are a little heavy, which creates a tight seal when wearing them avoiding too much outside noise but your head may start to hurt after prolonged use. I found they made me sweat as they hold air in on one of the most temperature controlled parts of your body. Thought I would add this to your consideration, but they are good headphones, I have 3 other friends who use them for gaming.

The AD 700's are exactly $281 here and that's a tad high for my budget.

I don't know if I've got the wrong name or you, but the G35s are not Wireless. They are looking good their at the max of my budget, so I'll keep a look out for any other headset that's a lil cheaper with still great sound.

Oh please tell me more. How are they when listening to music? If you are playing any FPS game does it feel like you can tell where the sound is coming from, such as bullets and footsteps?

I've read about some complains about the Kave with the microphone giving up after few weeks/months, also the bass wouldn't be so good.

Would you recommend them over a stereo headset?

I have roccat kave's and my mic did give up after the warranty was gone, and one of speakers died in it on one of the sides.
According to my brother steelseries siberia v2 have got good positional audio and the mic that comes with them is pretty good, but these are not really good for music

Here's what I'm using for headphones and I love it to death.

Sennheiser HD555 (you can find them under your budget used on amazon.com)

for a microphone I use Zalman MC-1, it clips on to the headphone cord and people can hear your voice with no problems.

a quick minor warning, the cord for both of these are super long.

Ok I'll go into a bit more detail about my Roccat Kaves.

Firstly the quality is just amazing. Just looking at them, and the feel on your head is just awesome. Very adjustable and comfortable, you will forget they are on your head.

The 5.1 is great. But I've come to realise only some games take full advantage of it. Older games sound great but doesn't make full use of the 5.1. Battlefield 3 for example sounds ridiculously good, with every explosion literally vibrating the headset. You have a full perception of where bullets are coming from. Hearing a jet in the distance and you can truly feel what angle it's coming from etc.

They do need some adjusting (comes with a little box to change the volume of each speaker/bass etc), and I've heard complaints about the headphone but I don't have any problems. Also it uses regular 3.5mm ports so you can make full use of a good sound card.

The reviews for it have been universally good.

Music sounds great but keep in mind it's designed primarily for hardcore gaming thumb.gif.

Thanks for your mini-review! I do understand that the 5.1 surround headsets are mainly for gaming and movie purpose.
But I'm using my headphones for everything, listening to alot of music when I can't use my speakers, youtube videos(which are stereo), not so much movies but alot of gaming.
Therefor I'm unsure if 5.1 is a little to much aimed for gaming for my taste, as I like to use my headset for about anything. That's why I need one performing great in every aspect.

I'm slowly moving away from 5.1 surround headset because I do believe Virtual Surround would be sufficient for me(have been using my current headset since five years back with virtual surround).
Although, if I am to find a pair of 5.1 surround headsets that works very well in music as well, I would probably pick them up at an instance.

I've read of ways to make use of all the drivers in Roccat Kave whilst listening to music, is that something you've tried or know of?

Thanks.

Yeah sorry about that, mine were the G930s. They are in essence the wireless version of the G35s with what appears to be minor differences.

I will never suggest this microphone after mine died within 1 week of use.... If the cord of the headphone is even remotely thick, the Zalman will not clip on. It also continually slips down the cord, changing the volume of how you sound to others on ventrilo/skype/mumble/dolby axion/teamspeak. If you want headphones without a mic on them, just get a USB table mic. Quality is good enough, its not in front of your face, and the cord won't be in your way.
