Anyway to block / cripple Torrent upload traffic? - Page 2

Who pays for it? If it's a 50/50 thing you're gonna have to talk it out. If you pay for it or the majority, I say pull the plug and tell them to fix it or pay for their own connection.

To clarify, this isn't about them torrenting (as you said it interferes with your connection, not that you have a concern about legality), it's about them not sharing as they should. Don't do anything stupid like call the cops or report them for torrenting... that can come back to bite you hard. Work it out and be diplomatic.

He said the roommate pays for it but he owns all the networking gear. Which means he really doesn't have a leg to stand on if he wanted to get really in his face about it. As the roommate probably wouldn't need any "network gear" if it was just his computer using the internet. Probably why he is trying to covertly limit his connection instead of talking it out.

It is not really torrenting that is the main problem. The real problem is maxing out the upload speed on a ADSL line which cripples the download speed. It is utorrent that is the thing that is upload most often. No upload we get 1.1 Megabytes a second. Max uploading we get 150-200Kilobyte a second at best. He wants to upload at max speed to get a good ratio with whatever torrent site he is using and leaves it on for days. I have manually changed it and asked him to leave it at a reasonable level numerous times but he will not.

I have tried a few different versions of Tomato with MAC B/W Limiter but it does not work 100% of the time for some reason. All this morning it was not working but now it is. Tried a few different versions of Tomato and still the same result. I am just looking for an alternative.

Well there's always dd-wrt. I used tomato and dd-wrt with my e3000 and i liked dd-wrt a lot more than tomato. Give dd-wrt a shot. Maybe something was wrong with how you configured tomato, cause when B/W limiter worked for both tomato and dd-wrt when I used it.
