Helping a friend in need

Thread Starter
So my friend is having some problems with his old athalon going hot and making the fans generate a lot of noise. I cleaned out his PC(5-6 years of dust) and installed a brand new stock cooler that i had laying around(I also replaced the thermal pads and paste on his GPU). This helped some, but it is still wery loud. So I installed HW monitor on his PC and it is showing core 0 to be at 26C and core 1 to be at 55C. I reseated the heatsink thinking i may have gotten an uneven spread, but this is clearly not the problem. Im not shure, but may it be that his CPU is starting to feel its age? its seen like 5-6 years of intensive gaming, a fair share of trasport to and from LANs, little to no TLC and 24h workdays. I also rearanged his fans so that his case now has proper airflow tongue.gif

My 939 toledo does the same thing. one core is 18 and the other 36 or even 43 at a room temperature of 20-23 degrees.
I tend to think the real temperature is either in-between the two numbers or the highest number.

In his case its probably the highest since fans are running at full speed.
Your fan re-arrangement should help, the only other cause I can think of would be too much voltage or with age, the temperature reader has become faulty.
Try running prime for an hour and see if the temps change much, if they don't it could be the sensor.

You could try an atric cooler 64 or similar too see if it helps.
