Sup felled, looking to build my own htpc case, I had a few questions before buying buying materials, its going to be made of wood and id prefer to paint it black, anyone got a picture or two of black painted wood on a case? I wanna make it glossy if possible,

Also should I use black rivets to connect the case? And can I use rivets to place plexiglass on both sides?

Its going to be watercooler because I'm interested in it and have been reading about it.for months Now, I was thinking a 240 rad could be plenty for Cpu block or just a single rad? Been looking a ap-13 for 2 rear exhaust and rad fans, heard they were good,


Htpc will be amd a6 or a8, no need for gpu, if I forgot anything il ask it in a later post,

Actually have you settled the capabilities of the HTPC before case, etc? Digital files, live TV (OTA/Cable?), DVR and perhaps as a media server for other clients @ home? Also what of the audio side of things i.e 2 channel stereo, or surround, etc? Outside that the A55 chipsets for Llano are really basic no SATA 6GB/s and USB 3.0 for the most part so if u want those perhaps the A75 chipsets? I would pick the A6-3500 and a bang for buck A75 mATX /w stock cooler so more $$ for big juicy hdds thumb.gif An A8 + WC if some gaming on the horizon but A6/Stock is more than enuff for HTPC duty

Its going to be on cable, I'm assuming a Tv tuner will do the job, id like to have it be dvr like so i can Record Tv. No gaming so ill go with a6, I want to watercool, never done it and want it to be silent.

Also I want to run surround sound and.ill go with an a75 chip,

Not really any monks to Colorado match with green or yellow:mad:

I recommend against watercooling your HTPC. Though you might think it fun now and no problem to drain/refill the loop plus some maintenance, it won't be fun if you run into problems. You want your HTPC to be a build done right and then 'forget about it' - something you'll never really need to mess with much.

There are plenty of air cooling solutions and passive coolers that will get the job done without sacrificing a low noise barrier (or silent). Computers can run hot you know - no need for near-ambient cooling, especially for an HTPC.

yeah your right, ive been talking to a buddy and i think i may go with air this time since its going to be a HTPC, ive been looking at silent fans, ive heard some say the AP-13s are good and quiet, but im forsure going to keep looking around,

still been searching for wooden case ideas. all i ever find on the internet is dougs wooden case build lol.. ive look at the log like 50 times -.-// my father in law works at a sheet metal company so im going to see if he can build me some things for it like the back plate, mobo tray and some fan grills, wanna kinda have an idea of what its going to look like first.

again if anyone has any wooden case build post in mind/ or pictures of nicely painted wooden cases. link away please! thanks in advance!biggrin.gif

OHHH, and my amd 960t and 21.5 inch asus monitor will be here today to finish off my first build, hopefully it boots up and doesnt have problems thumb.gif

thanks for those pictures, got an old case im in the middle of getting the mobo tray out and drive bays out of, hopefully will able to find some wood in the next couple days..
