RAM disk for my Minecraft server

I just scored some RAM off eBay, it should be here in a couple days. I got 2x2 GB of DDR2 for $14, not too bad for DDR2, the price is insane right now compared to DDR3. Anyway this is for my old desktop which exists for the sole purpose of running a Minecraft server, so I wanted to make a RAM disk to run the server out of. I'm thinking I only need 1 GB for the RAM disk, then I can allocate 2 GB to the server and have the 1 GB for the OS (Windows XP), Malwarebytes, my remote desktop client, etc., which should be plenty. Currently I only have 1 GB for everything.

I've never made a RAM disk before, but I did some searching and found imdisk and dataram ramdisk utility, both of which are free. Are these good, or are there others I should look into? Dataram says it can partition fat16 and fat32 volumes automatically, but I can leave it unpartitioned and create my own. Will fat32 work, or did I need and NTFS volume to run Minecraft out of?
Also, it would be nice to be able to automatically back it up to the hard drive, and be able to automatically save/load for when I reboot. If someone can teach me how to do this I'd appreciate it. It isn't really necessary, it's just a convenience thing. If I have to pay for a utility to do I'd rather go without.

imo 4Gb may be enough for a basic OS and applications.

If you're thinking about a server running off ramdisk an 8Gb will definitely do you better.

there's this which is the basics of creating a ramdisk.
8 or 6Gb is probably better if running in RAM

do you have an SSD?

This is an old P4 desktop, it runs Windows XP. It literally doesn't do anything besides minecraft, it uses about 200 MB of RAM at idle. The only other thing it needs to do is firefox occasionally for downloading all things minecraft related and my remote desktop client. My entire bukkit folder is only 210 MB, so I could get away with a 512 MB RAM disk for now. I think I'm being optimistic with 1 GB wink.gif
This isn't anything fancy, its just for my, my brothers, and our friends. The whole thing is a recycled build with parts from a couple old machines, so no SSDs. I wish I had a small one to run this off of.

That article is basically what got me started, but I'm not sure if it can run from a FAT32 partition. I also don't know if dataram is good or if I should be looking at something else.
