An aftermarket cooler would be good for your current chip and is almost a necessity for any phenom ii.

Judging by the fact you are on stock, I'm going to assume that you haven't overclocked your cpu yet. I would look into overclocking and replacing the stock cooler and reassessing your cpu performance situation. The 600e is really slow at stock (2.2 Ghz) because its meant as a low power chip. You should be able to get a massive OC out of it as you have a quality board for overclocking.

For a good cooler look for copper base / heatpipes and a decent size rad wit preferably 120mm fans if you have the clearance. The Hyper 212+ is a common recommendation and I can say two of my friends rigs have it and it works well for them (on a 945 and a 2500k).

+1 for Hyper 212+.

One thing you could do if you wanted, get the cooler. Overclock your Athlon and see how you like it. If its still not enough peformance, grab the 960t.

Athlon II overclocking guide
http://www.overclock.net/t/1002985/athlon-ii-overclocking-guide-beginner-friendly

you can also use a phenom ii overclocking guide, but note that you do not have an unlocked multiplier. This means your chip will have to be overclocked via the reference clock. Your board should be able to push a very high reference clock though so I'd think you could get a massive overclock out of that chip.

Things to do first:
Figure out exactly what kind of RAM you have. Look it up from where you bought or better yet download CPU-Z and check the memory and SPD tabs. CPU-Z is a program you'll want anyhow.
Get a temperature monitoring program. I use HWMonitor but other choice are coretemp and realtemp.
Check your temps at stock. This will give a good idea of your thermal headroom on the stock cooler. You'll be able to get some overclock on the stock cooler just because you have such a low power draw chip, but for a larger overclock you will want to seriously consider an aftermarket cooler.

Better be a huge discount, the 212+ is better, the evo is even better and only $1 more right now.

Tests that shows the 212+ being better than the 9500

Yes!

Go get a 960T. You are wasting that beautiful motherboard - heck it is better than mine.

Go get better cooling as well like the 212 evo with MX-2 thermal paste or something.

Note: Do not expect that it will unlock. But even if it doesn't, you can oc it way more than your current cpu. Way more.
