Vr4 Car PC

Hey everybody,

I love my car as much if not a teensie bit more than my computer. I want to put the two together and I am making a custom car pc project and here is my log.

Things I have.
A 8 inch lili
A mini itx case
300 HP VR4
a c3 1ghz board with onboard processor.
Memory for board and various cabling.
New Bose Speakers for the doors.


Things I Need
Either a ide 2.5 hard-drive or a sata ide adapter
A dc-dc power-supply
Probably a better board/ cpu ( anyone have suggestions or sell a mini itx board I cant post in the classifieds yet)
A head-unit.

Ok, What do you guys think. I am on a tight budget and I am thinking that the old via board will be super slow. I was looking at newegg and the new apu/cpu/motherboard combos. I also saw somebody was doing an i3 build what do you guys think would be a good board for a car pc. I will use it for mostly audio gps ipod/phone. Some light video as I eat my lunch at school in my car. Besides that I want something efficient so it can run for maybe 20-30 mins off the battery with out running it down.

I drive another one daily and haven't had any problems with it. But I am a mechanic so all I have to do is buy parts. The cars get a bad name because a bunch of teenagers/inexperienced drivers run the **** out of them. If they are treated well they last. Most of them have over 150k on them and still are fast. Any car raced to death will have problems especially with 150-180k.

I was looking at those but do they regulate the voltage? The other thing is that they don't turn on automatically. But on my budget I might end up with one thanks for the suggestion.

Nice I always loved the audi. Yea they are heavy but the awd helps a lot. Especially in Michigan. They are fast stock and will take most camaros/mustangs. People also need to understand it isn't built for handling like a 240 is. They are also very comfortable to ride in. I have driven very light cars but the steadyness of the vr4 going 80mph in a rain storm gets me every time. Everyone talks about oh hondas are light but when you drive them doing 100 in wind storm they get blown around a lot. lol,

But for the money you can't go wrong with a vr4 if you like to do work. I bought the car for 1500 and have put about $200 including nuts/bolts and new stri gauges. You can't beat a deal like that. NOw if you aren't a mechanic with a shop and have to spend 1500 to 2000 for new turbos then it isn't worth it.

It looks good but I am not sure about power consumption. I have heard good things about bio star and haven't heard anything about ecs. Only thing is i don't know if it comes with a heat sync?

Yes. I love when people hate on them when they say they are heavy and compare to the supra. Which isn't lighter by much. They oh the supras are in the 9s.they have them push 1000hp+ OK so you dump enough money into anything it will be beast. Stock the supra is very close in performan. If you put the same turbos and supra injectors the vr4 will beat it. Or even 13gs from the dam auto. With the awd and the 13g not much on the street will beat you off the line because of the traction. I love the dsms they really fast and even cheaper to mod then the 3000gt. The talons thoughquick are ugly. No one can really say they are beautiful. Now the eclipse looks nice. But the vr4 is amazing looking. (imo) I have a bonding bucket daily stealth and girls love it. Big plus. Interior is a bit small but very comfortable and 25-30 mpg. Plus I don't think the supra looks as cool. and,

the rest of the competitors
the 240 best drift car not fast unless turbo or switch motor. Interior is plain.
rx7 apex seals best handling+ Chevy ls1=amazing
300zx looks weird have to pull the engine to do anything. Not that fast to start.
When it comes down to it its what's best for you. Yes you may be light but i beat you to 40. I don't like to race much faster than the limit. If you like a car and what it looks like buy it enough money will make it fast. If you want a light car buy a Honda.

Can't forget the still great car expensive. Evo is great too. Suxs they changed the motor so much it doesn't like to fit the dsm.

I love the 4g63. Amazing good reviews motor cheap. Quick with the right upgrades. And need only 1 turbo. Pistons and stuff are cheap. A whole rebuild kit is 220 lol.

What type year dsm you have stock?
